Should I Be Worried?
Posted: 05-27-05 08:40am

I took a test yesterday morning and it said that it could take up to 10 min for the correct result. Well I checked the test a couple minutes after and it said negative so I threw it out not giving it a second thought, until much later when something told me to recheck which I did and found out that it was now a faint positive. I mean the box said to disregard any changes in the test after the 10 minutes where up, but i'm not sure if that positive came in before the time limit. Can a test change from negative to postive after it sits for a while (and where talking a few hours here). I wouldn't think so, I mean why would it, but could it be an effect of the test after a few hours to change results?

If you were pregnant the positive line would have showed up almost immediately.

The positive line can show up anywhere from immediately to 10 mins after the urine is first applied to the test stick depending on how far along you are. The test can show a false positive after 10 mins. It is called an evaporation line. I would advise that you take another test and set a timer for ten minutes and the read the test after the timer has gone off. Good luck and keep us posted

I took 2 tests last weekend a few days before my period was due. The one I think messed up because it tooked forever for even just the one line to show and then there was a really faint second line so I redid it and it turned out negative so I didnt worry about it. Then on tuesday I had light spotting, as if I was going to start my pd but thats it, nothing since then. I've had cramping for the last 2 weeks almost, and i'm now 5 days late. My breast are now just starting to get sore (not so much the nipples) I feel nausous sometimes (just heaving i'm not actually throwing up) i've had a couple headaches and i'm always so tired and really thirsty. Also these cramps they're either right on my lower abdomen or on either side. I know stress can cause your period to be late but honestly i'm not stressing about this. I figure either way whatever the out come is i'll deal with it you know. I know I should wait a couple days to test again, but I just really need/want to know whatever the result. A really big part of me doesn't think I am but there still is that small nagging part that says yes. I'm just so confused and frustrated by it all. Sorry for the long post I just really appreciate all the imput.

Poohbear it sounds like you may have had implantation bleeding and maybe you are pregnant. I would go ahead and take another test and see what it says. If it comes up neg. I would call the doctor and get an appt. To go in. There could be something else wrong and you need to know for sure what is going on. Good luck.

I took your advice and did another test. But it came back negative too. Could it be too early? Also, I was told that if you take the sample from a container that it would be more accurate, so thats what I did. Do you think maybe thats why it came out negative? Because the tests that I have taken normally (not from the container) have been faint positives. Unless it was just the test that were messed up and they're werent real positives at all. who knows.

Tell me if this makes any sense. My pd was due the 22, I had sex (unprotected) early in the morning on the 23. What are the chances of getting pregnant that close to when your period is due (or over due by like a day). I know if I did then it would be way too soon for any symptoms like i've been having, but could that be the reason that I haven't gotten my pd yet and why the tests keep coming up negative cause its too soon to get a positive? If I am pregnant I thought it happened around the 9th, cause I really dont think anything could have happened the 23rd, could it?

What has happened since your last post? Did you find out if you were pregnant or not? You have replied to my posts in the other forum and I appreciate it! My period was not actually late but I was so anxious and scared with what happened with my patch that I just was not thinking straight. Since I have been on the patch I usually get my period 4 days after I remove the 3rd one and that is exactly how it happened this time. So maybe you are not pregnant but htinking you may be has delayed your period and has led you to believe that you have symptoms. Rather than wasting your time taking hpt's I would advise you to get both a urine test and a blood test. If your period is already a few days late and ther eason is pregnancy, it should definetely show on either one. So good luck hun and whatever the outcome is just remember that everything happens for a reason!

Still don't know. No pd yet and I haven't taken another test since friday, so I don't know if i'd get a positive result this time. I'm just over a week late now and i'm not stressing about it, I mean sure i'd like to know what the hell is going on but i'm not worried enough that it would delay my pd this long. I talked to a friend and she told me that she never got a positive hpt until she was almost 3 months along, so maybe i'm just one of those girls who cant get positives. I'm going to wait a few more days and then test again, if its negative this time i'll try and get an appointment for the doc. Thanks for the concern though and i'm glad things worked out for you the way you wanted them too. Right now I dont care either way what the result is I just want to know so I don't have to keep questioning everything I do.
