to All Who Have Had Their Gallbladder Removed... Posted: 05-27-05 17:25pm
I am pretty confident that my gallbladder
is my source of pain, so I have been
scheduled to have it removed. When I was
13, my family physician told me I couldnt
have caffenine and that was what was
causing the pain. So I stopped having
caffenine but recalled having "attacks"
nonetheless but never as severe as those
seemingly from having chocolate, but each
major attack lasted longer as I got older
(longest was 6-12 hrs). I went to the er
and they told me it was fatty foods and my
gallbladder. I juss came back from my
family doc who now states that it is my
gallbladder and fatty foods and
caffeninated foods and that they are
related. Also, now having read the forum
(thanks to all) and all the other info on
the net, im positive it is my gallbladder
(given my symptoms and other factors
match). I was a little worried b4 because
I already have a slew of health problems
and have had my another organ of mine
removed (spleen) that I did not want to
lose another organ in vain. My only
question is, what is life like without a
gallbladder? Someone asked this already
but I didnt not find any detailed answers
so I will be specific. Any change in
energy levels? Can you maintain the same
diet before but w/out pain now or eat
things you could not have b4? Did anybody
experience mild/severe weight_gain/loss
after losing their gallbladder? Do you
think I will be able to have chocolate and
other caffeninated goodies now without a
gallbladder? Those are all the questions
I can think of for now....Thank you
everyone for your time.

Hi there! Congratulations on your to-be
galbladder surgery. The 1st place,
please have them to make sure that they do
not leave any surgical supplies in you,
the left surgical scissors in me(lol).
After I had the surgery and was back in my
room, totally wiped out on anesthesia, I
walked down to the nurses station and
asked them, what time was my surgery and
why are they running soo late, right then,
I passed out, busted my stitches opened
and they still did not see the scissors in
me.
A month went by, two months went by, I
kept complaining that there was something
wrong, they kept blaming it on
post-surgical pain, finally, they took an
x-ray and saw the scissors, then, they
finally fixed it.
After that though, I found out that I
could not tolerate fatty, greasy, acidy
foods and sometimes I will have loose
stool for no reason at all. We are all
different, a lot of people do have
problems and others have no problems at
all.
Good luck to you!
Keep us posted.
Sincerely,
sandy

Hello,
i had my gb out the end of march and am
still finding out day to day what agrees
with me and what doesn't. Chocolate is ok
with me but chicken, gravy, cheese sauce,
and french fries are a few that don't.
After I had my gb out I lost about 5 lbs
the first week because I had some pretty
severe nausea. My energy level is a
little low but that is probably because I
have 3 kids under the age of 6. If I eat
too much greasy/fatty/spicy foods in one
day I pay for it with nausea, cramps and
diahrea.
Just remember..Everyone is different.
Some people will be fine after their gb is
out while others suffer. It's a decision
only you can make.
Good luck and keep us posted!

I seriously hope you have a good
malpractice attorney and are moving
forward with this. What a horrendous
mistake. Those scissors could have
killed you.
Okay, now I am truly terrified to have gb
sx.

I had my gb out about 6 weeks ago. Apart
from the soreness of the operation
incisions, I havent had any other
problems. A little nausea after a heavy
meal & one experience of explosive
stool following eating fish & chips.
Believe you me, I eat chocolate every day
with no problems lmao

Had my gb out in 1982. Then found out I
had ulcers not gb problems. Anyway,
since it's gone and there is nothing I can
do about it here is my experience post gb.
Everyone is different. Some people can
eat gravy some cannot.
But, keep trying every six months or so
and see if things change.I now et
everrything and am not bothered by pain
or gas or such. If you eat too much fat
you may get diarreah.
Good luck

I had my gall bladder removed 5 weeks ago.
I had it removed by key hole surgery.
Apart from the occasional pain around my
stiches (usually when I sleep on my belly)
i'm fine now. I eat anything and have not
as yet found anything that disagrees with
me. I've had no severe pain since my op.
I have gained a little weight. I am
tired alot but put that down to running
around after a hyper-active two year
old.
You have probably had your operation by
now I hope all went well and you are
enjoying chocolate as I type!!!!

Everyone i've talked to has a different
experience. I had surgery this past
april. I can eat chocolate &
caffeine, but I could before. I have
gained 10/12 pounds since my surgery in
april, & i've always been under a 100.
My energy level is definitely up &
not being sick on a daily basis & in
pain with attacks is a definite plus!!
My gallbladder was diseased with
inflammation & adhesion's all over it.
It also had cholesterol polyps inside.
I felt great for the first four months
after surgery. Then in september started
to develop pain in my ribs, front to back
& pain in my stomach, does not matter
what I eat. I now have to take prilosec
on a daily basis. It does the trick. I
also have to take psyllium husk
(metamucil) everyday because of having
lose stools. And I thought I had a
problem with gas before, it's worse now.
Hoping this is all temporary & my body
is just adjusting to not having a
gallbladder.
All in all -- despite the not so pleasant
side effects, it was definitely worth my
having to get rid of the gallbladder.
Since this post was from may, I hope
everything has went well for you.
