The pill is called ecp (emergency contraception pill) and can be used within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse to prevent pregnancy. The more time that elapses, the less effective it is. Studies now show that it may be effective for up to 5 days now though.

What it does is to thicken the mucus and prevent any fertilized eggs from implanting into the wall of the uterus. There is a website if you wanted to look there for further info.

It's pretty much a double dosage of birth control. It's def not an abortion and it doesn't starve the kid. They give you two pills when you recieve it. You must take the first pill within 72 hours after intercourse and the second pill 12 hours after the first. It's good to try and take both pills within 72 hours, but if you don't, as long as u take the first one it's fine. It hasn't even been proven that you absolutely need the second pill.

It is only to be used in emergenicies and should under no circumanstances be used as method of contreceoption.
It is normally used for eg if a condom has split, not merely beacuse you didnt want to use a condom or didnt have one.
Make sure you get regular contrception sorted.
It is definatly not like an abortion.
An abortion is actually removing the already formed embryo/foetus from the womb, wheras the morning after pill is used to prevent you ever falling pregnant.
