They say that 36 weeks is full term but if
the baby was to be born then it would
still be premature?

I've always heard that full term is 37 -
42 weeks but a baby born at 36 wks has a
near 100% survival rate with little or no
complications.

I think the 4 extra weeks is just natures
safety cushion and for gaining weight..
And most of the vital stages of
development are done by then or almost
done... Not sure though.

Ya i've heard diff things. Like my doc
says full term is 38 weeks, but says the
baby would be fine if born at 36. But on
some sites, yahoo health and a couple of
others, it says the day you start your
36th week, you are full term, others say
the day you end your 36th week you are
full term. And other sites and people say
different things. Who knows??

conception.

ya I know that-it's a lil confusing
though. But if I was to go into labor
now at 36 1/2 weeks, they wouldn't stop it
right?

Agreed. At 36 weeks, there probably
won't even be a nicu stay at all, maybe
tust an extra day in the hospital to be
sure all is well, and a slight risk of
jaundice, so maybe you will be given a
lightbox. Other than that, this is late
enough that it is common.

I am sure that you have heard the line
that all pregnancies are different, this
is true, they say that when women have
taken good care of themselves thru her
pregnancy that things turn out better, to
me that is bull hockey, of course I am not
saying to abuse yourself thru pregnancy
either. To me a lot of it depends on the
body and the stress level and being
pregnant can sure bring on the stress
level, and make the hormones go out of
control.
Sincerely,
sandy

My true feeling is when it is time it will
happen, if it is too early, the Dr. Will
do something about it or tell you, kind of
like wine.
Sincerely,
sandy

I was just wondering. I'm not even close
to going in labor. No braxton hicks-
nothing. I think the doc will do a
vaginal exam to see if I am dilated at all
tomorrow, but I was just wondering about
this and kept getting diff answers.
Thanks for the answers. I hope he
doesn;t come untill 38-39 weeks- but I
don't want him being late. I don't think
I could satnd it, I just want to meet my
son! :d

This is kind of strange hearing everyone
talk about premature birth, they dont
realize the complications with a late
birth either, I was born exactly one month
late of my due date, the day before my
doctors were going to induce mymother and
I lost weight in her stomach, i've had
helath problems my whole life and my foot
got caught in her ab muscle and I ended up
with a very sever club foot yet I was only
born at 42 weeks... So it's kind of
strange.. But most babies born at 36
weeks are just fine some may be a little
under developed but they're babies all
babies need different things. I dont know
what else to tell you.

Well there's no worries about him being
premature as I am 36 1/2 weeks preggy and
had a doc's apt today and am not even
dilated at all. So if anything he'll be
here on time or my doc said that if I go
to 41 weeks, he;ll induce.

Jay was born at 36 weeks exactly.
She had no problems.
I was told even though she was 4 weeks
early, she is only 1 week premature.
If ur baby is born now, when they do the
weight as the baby grows, they do -4
weeks.
Jay is underweight for a 4 month old, but
she is over average for a normal 3 month
old.
Hope that helps.

It can be bad either way, I agree to both
ways that is why it is important to get a
good Dr. And some of these docs really
suck! To me it is kind of similar to
buying a new car you test drive them all,
it is not just because it has a better
stereo in it (lol). You need to get more
than one opinion even if you have to pay
for it yourself, you are the one that is
responsible for bringing it into this
world and I do realize that things happen
beyond our control.
Sincerely,
sandy

Well like I said before, there's no
worries now that I went to the doc's today
and am not dilated at all, and he's
lowered only a lil bit. I'll be 37 weeks
on saturday so from then on everything
would be fine i'm sure.
