Hi, my mom is having some problem in her
throut for sometime now I think its been
over an year and we have consulted with
many docs but the medication dosent seem
to help her. She says that she has
difficulty swallowing and she feels
blisters in her mouth and throut. But the
docs are saying that she would be ok after
the medication but shes not. I dont even
know whats actually wrong with her throut
and since its not getting any better after
so long im scared it might turn into
something major. So pls can some one help
me. I dont know whom to ask and im really
scared.

Thryoid Problem? Posted: 07-23-05 03:49am
Hi, I am a nuclear medicine technologist,
and to me your mother sounds like she
could possibly have a goiter on her
thyroid. To check for this she should
have some lab work done to check for the
levels of hormone her thyroid is putting
out. Also she might want to ask her
doctor about having a thyroid uptake and
scan, which is an outpatient test that
involves taking a tiny dose of radioactive
iodine (not even as much radiation as a
chest xray) which will allow for images to
be taken to show the thyroid function.
There are no side affects from this test.
Very easy tests that will definitely show
if it is the thyroid! Take care and good
luck...
