Tummy Tuck Information
Posted: 06-03-05 15:43pm

Still hoping someone will answer my email. I am getting a tummy tuck in july and wanted to know if anyone has experienced this surgery before. I have had 2 c-sections and 2 ps that I have been to say that a tummy tuck is less painful than a c-section, because they are not cutting your muscles, just tightening them. Can anyone answer my question? Thanks

Somebodys not been paying attention or was seriously misinformed. A tummy tuck (full or partial) does involve cutting and reconnecting muscles. Liposuction (just sucking out the layer of fat over the muscles) does not involve cutting the muscles. Um, what exactly is the question though?

Ps means plastic surgeon abbreviated. Sorry about that. So do you have an answer to my question regarding the pain. Is a c-section more painful than a tummy tuck?

Thanks!!

Tummy Tuck

Betty,

thanks alot. I just wanted to see if it is true what the 2 doctors I have saw said about the difference between the 2. They both told me not to worry about it because it is not as painful as a c-section. But 2 of my friends have had tummy tucks and said that it is the worst pain they ever felt in their lives. But they have never experienced having kids with a c-section. I appreciate your input. Talk soon.

Let's see . . . Whos opinion would I trust? The ps (presumably men) who've never had a c-section, let alone a tummy tuck, or two different people who've actually experienced the surgery and tell you it's not fun? Tough call.

Tummy Tuck & Pain
Posted: 06-11-05 08:44am

Hi, I had 3 c-sections prior to my full tummy tuck in december. The results are so worth it! My only regret is I waited so long to do it. It
wasn't as painful as the c-sections. The pain is a different sort, hard to explain. You won't be able to stand up straight for a week or so, and that is weird. You'll be wearing a binder around your abdomen and that helps w/ everything. I took my pain meds for the first 3 days I would say. After that I was down to a half at night to help me sleep. I would wake up early and be sore. But really, after the first week you'll feel well on your way. You'll most likely have drains in place also, and they are a hassle. I hated those the most over anything else. Can't shower until they are out.
I asked my doc same thing about it being as painful as a c-section. I asked him what his patients said about this. He said not as bad, and he was right. You will survive, and you will love the results. The swelling sticks around too for quite awhile, so don't get discouraged. It took six weeks for me to fit into my jeans, and that's with going back to running and exercising after 3.5 weeks. Now, at 5 months my before jeans are even a bit too big. You'll look great. Also, check out the web site: www.Tuckthattummy.Com. Great wealth of info.

Tummy Tuck & Pain
Posted: 06-12-05 00:20am

Hi,

thank you so much for your information. I am just really very nervous, but feom hearing what you said about the pain between the c-sections and the tummy tuck I kind of feel at ease a little. My first c-section was the worst , I could not stand straight for about 10 days, so if it is anything like that I can live through it. I am also terrified to be put to sleep. Any help from you about that, that would ease my mind might help. Thanks for that website, I will take a look at it. I see that you are from ny, I am originally from yonkers, ny, but I now live in chicago. Were in ny are you from? Thanks again.

My sister had a tummy tuck a few years ago, and she had pain afer the surgery.
A few weeks later she was already walking properly, and we hardly could see her scar, because it was very low.

Iif you have any doubts please email me:

I Am Scheduled In 9 Days For Full Tt
Posted: 06-27-05 18:06pm

Rubymoon,

thanks for your words of confidence. I am very nervous about this surgery. I am most terrified to be put to sleep, did you feel the same way? It just scares me knowing that some medicine is putting me out unconsious. Please tell me how to overcome my fear, I am only 9 days away. I feel very comfortable with my plastic surgeon and he has reassured me that he is not worried about it and that I should not worry about it, but I am still worried about it. Anything you can say that could possibly help me get through it.

Thanks again

Anesthesia is one of the worlds wonderful helpers!! Without it you would be miserable while being operated on!

My brother-in-law in a certified registered nurse anesthist (sp) and the training he has had to go through is amazing. The guys/gals putting you out are highly trained and well qualified to take care of any situation that may arise.

The going under should be the last of your concerns, the tummy tuck itself is going to be the worst part! Be prepared for intense pain afterwards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had a back operation in december where they went through my belly and the incision from that was 8" from hip to belly button and that rocked my world!!

Good luck and keep strong!

Thanks for your words of advise regarding the anesthesia. I know that they are so well trained, but still it scares me. As for the tummy tuck itself that really is not such a big worry, I have had 2 cesarean sections with my kids and I think that is very painful, because they cut you open and move organs, this is really just skin and tighten the muscles. I have spoken to numerous people who have had tummy tucks and c-sections and they say by far the c-sections are worse. Well thanks again, I feel a little at ease with the anesthesia.

Nemcoj,
congrats on your decision to have a tummy tuck. Try very hard, when your thoughts try to get you worried about being put to sleep, to tell those same thoughts everything will be fine. I'm a believer in "your thoughts create your future", so create thoughts that have a wonderful outcome, and that's what you will get.

I also had a breast augmentation done at the same time, so my surgery lasted almost 4 hours. The longer you are under, the longer it takes to get the residual medicine out of your body. So, I was very groggy for my overnight stay. It did make me tired also for awhile afterward, but this is good, because it forces you to rest. I looked at it as my time. My time for someone to take care of me, and to rest and relax. My family was very supportive, and I did take it easy, and I did recover. People who love drama in their lives will tell you it was the worst thing ever. But, do you really remember the pain of the c-sections you had? Most likely, like me, you know you had pain, but you don't feel that pain now. It's the same with the tummy tuck. It will be uncomfortable, but it's managable. And you will have pain meds for home. I took mine for 3 days, then went to 6 advil due to nightmares from the meds. The advil worked fine, and I had two surgeries.

Please try not to let these nay-sayers get to you regarding the surgery itself. And the anethesiologists are trained, and will talk with you before hand. Mine was wonderful, cute too!

Center your thoughts on how fabulous your new body will look and how fabulous you are going to feel in it. You'll be up and around in no time, and you'll be rested and beautiful.

Does your surgeon's office offer endomologie to its surgery patients? It's helpful with the after surgery swelling. My price included five sessions, but I still go. Added benefit, it rids your body of cellulite also if you have enough treatments. (that's if you have any, although 80% of women do). They may not have a machine, but if they do, I recommend you try some when the ps clears you for it. It did help with the residual swelling.

Any other thoughts or questions you have, i'd be happy to answer if I can. I believe in positive support, and positive thoughts. Enjoy yourself, and get excited, not worried. Best to you. :)

Rubymoon,

thank you so very much for your words of confidence. I know that once it is all over with I will feel and look great. I know that they will be there and walk me through the whole being put to sleep thing. My ps is great and very supportive and is there for me, very friendly and I feel confident with him. I did forget the pain of the c-sections and got over it, so I am assuming from what you and others have said that it will be the same, I feel okay. I do get to see an asthetician and a nutrisionist with my price and the asthetician explained how to take care of my abdomin afterwards when I get the okay from my ps, how to take care of the scare and get the blood flowing in my abs. I am getting a little nervous since I am only a few days away. My parents will be here in town for 3 weeks and they will be here to help along with my husband. So I will be in great hands.

I see that you are from upstate ny, I am originally from yonkers, ny and my brother lives in wappinger falls now. Where are you from in ny? I know live in chicago with my husband and children have been here for 10 years.

Well thanks again for your words of confidence about the whole procedure and well as the anesthesia, I really do appreciate it. I will email you when I am home and settled to let you know that you were right about the whole thing.
