I've only been with one person my entire
life and I was with him for 6 years. We
broke up about a month ago and he suddenly
started getting sick. He went to the
doctor and had blood work done (one of the
tests being an hiv test which he claims
patient first lost) and was diagnosed with
colon cancer. He's 27. I guess it can
happen but from what I understand it's
very rare. When I first heard about it,
I thought it was weird. It does run in
his family but my mind started working on
me. There was a point where he was using
heroin and shooting up for a couple of
months. I didn't know until he came to
me for help and finally quit. He says he
was always careful but he keeps changing
his story around. First he says he never
shared a needle with anyone, then I hear
tell that he has... He would buy his
needles from the dealers as well which
really freaked me out. He says that he
could always tell that they were new
though because of some piece of plastic on
the side that had to be broken in order
for him to use it.
I don't know. He's lied so much these
past couple of months i'm really scared.
Why would he have cancer this young unless
there were something else involved like
hiv. I had my own test done on friday
and am now waiting for the results. :(
it's driving me insane.

Well, i'm not familiar with cases of hiv
patients suffering colon cancer, however
it is true that certain cancers can
develop, most frequently karposi's sarcoma
(a form of skin cancer) so it may be
possible. But I would suggest that were
the colon cancer a result of hiv, there
would be other illnesses that would have
preceded it since it is more likely to
occur in the late stages of hiv/aids. In
other words, your friend would probably
have been ill with other things before
cancer developed.
I can provide you with the statistics of
contracting hiv from shared needles, and
the chances that you have caught the virus
from him, but I feel that this is
arbitrary. If you feel you are at risk,
then please get an hiv test. Make sure it
is at least three months since your last
unprotected sexual encounter for it to be
accurate. Try not to worry, the chances
are that you are fine.

Sorry, I didn't realise that you have
taken the test already so ignore the last
part of the comment. I hope it goes well
for you.
