Hi, i'm 24 years old and i've been
experiencing these symptoms lately:
- pain...Tender pain, especially in the
inner part of the right eyeball/brow are,
that seems to radiate through the right
part of the forehea and occasionally head.
I notice it, when its cold. Like for
example at night, when i'm lying on my
front, I feel the coldness, I turn over
onto my side and that pain disappears as
its warm from the pillow. In australia,
its getting on to be winter soon.
Sometimes, its like my eye feels cold and
dry.
- light sensivity. If I am in a well lit
place, I need to blink a lot. I feel if I
stare at anything, and then close my eye,
when I later open it, I have a clouding
over of vision. Like it blankets...A veil
of grey/black, sometimes reddish tinge.
It lasts about 3, 4 seconds, then fades
away and i'm able to see as before. The
vision apart from this occasional
blanketing over, is okay.
- in a well lit place, for example staring
at the computer, I find I start seeing
like sparks. They are thin white/purple
wire type sparks, which appear in the
centre of my vision fiel. They seem to
pulsate too, with each appearance. I have
about 5 or 6 of these pulsating wires
flash, then it subsides.
I'm scared. I have had iritis since the
age of two and I lost sight in my left eye
due to glaucoma in 1999. The above is
happening to my right eye. I'm worried,
and scared like you can't imagine. My
opthamologist appointment is coming up
this friday...I'm terrified of going.
Please could anyone help me identify what
this could be? Ease my mind a little?
Thankyou.
A.

Hi there. I'm sorry to hear of your
situation and what occured to you left
eye. I would like to say that "light
sensitivity" is very normal-although very
annoying and scary at times. I am 21
years old and also have bad light glare in
my vision some times. I also can related
to the "stare" issue that you described,
because I find that happens to me too.
Like if I look at something for too long
without moving my glance I get this trail
of light and it can be very bothersome.
Along with the trail there is this
"dimness" in my vision too. I guess it
just helps to shift your eyes sometimes.
Anyways, I feel your anxiety because I
have it too about my eye issue. I get
kind of scared going to doctors and eye
doctors specifically because they might
find something bad or what not. I would
just encourage you to calm down a little
and know that not all of your eye
problems, like they one's I mentioned are
abnormal, and the fact that you want to
overcome as many of these problems is very
good to hear, and I hope that everything
turns out fine.
