Jra & Stress Posted: 06-07-05 03:48am
Our little 3 1/2 yr. Old has jra
(systemic) her sed rate was down in the
20s, and her older brother just passed
away in march. During that month her
sed. Rate jumped to 83, and is slowly
going down. I say her sed rate climb
was due to the stress of losing her
brother, and the effect it had on our
family. The ped. Rheumy says no, I
disagree. What do y'all think?
Also she has been taking methotrexate
since feb. 2004, and the ped. Rheumy
wants to starts her on another shot:
enbrel. Could anyone give me some
feedback on their experiences with
enbrel.
Thanks in advance. God bless.
P.S. Why will this post not let me
capitalize words not in the beginning of
the sentence?

Sad Indeed Posted: 06-10-05 14:15pm
I thought this forum was to help one
another. Does no one have information
about anything I have asked? Seems a
little incredible.I know there are folks
on here who take methotrexate and/or
enbrel. It is too sad that no one wants
to give any input for a little precious 3
yr. Old who has this crippling disease.

My husband takes enbrel and methotrexate
and has had very positive results - his
life is much better because he's able to
function better - less pain, stiffness,
fatigue, etc. The bad thing is that,
especially in the early spring, he kept
getting sick since his immune system was
so supressed. He had bronchitis, sinus
infections, and respiratory infections, so
had to go off the meds until he got
better. It's been quite a roller coaster
in that regard but better now that there's
not so much illness in the air.
I hope things improve for your little one!

We are careful not to have our daughter
around a lot of people when it is cold and
flu season. Of course this is next to
impossible to keep her away from everyone!
She has to go in to the doctor's for her
methotrexate shots right now & I
cringe when I see snotty-nosed kids all
about her. She is also suppose to start
pre-school this fall, so will see how it
goes. I do not like to send my kids to
school when they are sick & I wish
more parents had that belief. Too often
though school is seen as daycare, &
kids get sent no matter how they are
feeling!
I still think her esr was up due to her
brother's death, and stress related from
that. She is doing better with things
than what she was, but she still thinks
her brother is coming back.
How long has your husband had ra?
Thanks for the reply

It's a strange situation - he, the kids,
and I all had fifth disease a year ago and
his seems to have morphed into ra - we're
still hopeful that it might go away but it
came on very strong and has not let up at
all (except for the rx help)...He tried
naproxen, sulindac (still on that too),
prednisone, etc. But the enbrel and
methotrexate are the only drugs that have
really made a difference...
I can't imagine your little one and all
that you all have dealt with and are
dealing with. I hope things stabilize
soon!
