What Does Melanoma Look Like?signs And Symptoms?? Posted: 06-07-05 09:32am
Can someone please describe what this type
of skin cancer looks like and the signs
and symtoms??? I think I might have it.
I noticed a small freckle on my face two
days ago, it looks dark brown, very small
(2mm by 1mm) and the surface feels raised.
It looks like a scar but I never
scratched my face there before. I just
noticed it there one morning.....Please
help...I am going to the doctors
today...But I just want some answers now
if anyone can help! Thanks

Another note, I just came out of my
backyard pool and the freckle/scab is
still there? Usually when you are in the
water, your skin sloughs and your old skin
comes off. But why didnt my freckle/scab?
This is weird. Its still there,
untouched???

Here is what a melanoma looks like:
asymmetry – the shape of one half does
not match the other.
Border – the edges are often ragged,
notched, blurred, or irregular in outline;
the pigment may spread into the
surrounding skin.
Color – the color is uneven. Shades of
black, brown, and tan may be present.
Areas of white, grey, red, pink, or blue
also may be seen.
Diameter—there is a change in size,
usually an increase. Melanomas are
usually larger than the eraser of a pencil
(1/4 inch or 5 millimeters).
Watch for changes in a mole
melanomas in an early stage may be found
when an existing mole changes slightly,
for example, when a new black area forms.
Newly formed fine scales and itching in a
mole also are common symptoms of early
melanoma. In more advanced melanoma, the
texture of the mole may change. For
example, it may become hard or lumpy.
Melanomas may feel different from regular
moles. More advanced tumors may itch,
ooze, or bleed. But melanomas usually do
not cause pain.
Hope this has helped!

I Think I Have Skin Cancer! Posted: 01-10-06 13:44pm
The other week I noticed that this freckle
i've had all my life has changed into a
mole. Now it's raised up and is darker.
I'm scared. I don't have a family doctor
or medicaid. Does anyone know what I can
do? I really don't want to go to the
emergency for something this small but I
don't have a doctor and everyone keeps
telling me to go to a family doctor and
get it checked out. I can't though but I
know someone who had a lot of freckles and
it turns out he has cancer. That scared
me because he wasn't that much older than
me. Any suggestions? I don't know if
cancer runs in my family because I was
adopted.
Any input would be nice!
Sincerely,
lisa

Hi there! Go to a skin Dr. That will
allow you to make payments would be my
best suggestion.
Good luck
