High Bp & Kidney Problems With Anemia Posted: 11-12-03 19:48pm
My 35 year old sister has fibromuscular
dysplasia in her renal artery. Is there
anyone who knows someone with this
condition & if so, do they also have
iron deficiency. Her nephrologist has
related this to her not eating enough red
meat & to her menstrual cycle, but I
think it's a sign of a more serious
condition. Any thoughts or
recommendations? I have a forboding
feeling i'm going to lose her soon, but
don't know how to help her & don't
think her Dr. Is doing enough. Thank
you.

You don't get iron deficiency from that -
the main effect would be high blood
pressure. If the kidneys were affected
severely enough kidney function would be
reduced but the anaemia of renal
impairment is not iron deficiency anaemia
