Anyone Refuse to Take Insulin Posted: 06-08-05 13:12pm
I wrote a post as first time user and I
have only been on insulin for a week. I
a word I hate it. I am hungry all the
time, I feel blotted, my sugar numbers are
twice as high as they were on pills, i'm
more tired than ever and my depression has
increased. Now my question. Can a
doctor refuse to treat you if you refuse
to take insulin. When taking pills my
sugar was lower, I got some activity and
the only problem I seem to have was my
triglycerids were just over 9. I feel
there could be a simple reason for this
since I have been under a lot of personal
stress. I was taken off of paxil and put
on what seems to be a lesser drug. Can
my diabedes be controlled with pills.

It depends why did the doctor put you on
insulin? If he put you on it because
your panc. Is not working even more it
may be the only resort. Even though your
sugars run fine with pills doctors usually
do a hemo a1c on you to see an average of
what your sugars have ran over a period of
3 months and if that is high that may be
why. If those things are why then pills
may not be suff. Anymore. Yes a doctor
can refuse to see you if you dont follow
his plan perscription. If you have to
stay on insulin you may want to ask your
doctor about puting you on a sliding
scale on top of your normal dosage. This
is where you take a certain amount of
insulin per you readings at that time.

I had a number just above 9. My problem,
other than that is that I have had high
numbers in the past and by controlling my
s.A.D. (social anxiety disorder) and
increasing or changing my pills I was able
to get them down to around 4. My concern
is that the physical and emotional effect
of insulin will override any positive
effect it might have.

donn, to know for sure we'd need to know a
lot more info. However, if you were
controlling your sugars with pills, then
no competent doc would switch you. Now,
you said your a1c is just over 9. That's
not controlling your blood sugar levels.
You want to be at 7 or below. To be
fair, I used to say I was ok, too, but I
didn't really do what I was supposed to,
and the doc threatened to put me on
insulin. I don't want that, either.
So, I have radically changed the way I
eat, and I exercise every day. I am now
well in control of my blood sugars.
Be honest with yourself if you haven't
done the right things with diet and
exercise. Then tell your doctor you
haven't been didligent and you want to try
diet, exercise and pills before accepting
insulin. If he says no, get another doc.
Trust me, they may be highly educated
and be specialists in this field, but they
don't know everything. My doc actually
told ne supplements woudl do me no good,
and neither would having my inulin levels
checked. So, I fired him.
Check out this web site
(www.Healingmatters.Com) to find out more
about how we eat is poisoning us. Do all
the research you can on nutrition and
supplements. You canbeat this if you
commit to it. I never did, and I wish to
god I had. But I feel I still have time.
You do, too.
Let me know how it goes.

Have you ever considered seeing a
counsuler or an therapist for you s.A.D?
You may alreay me be doing that I just
know that that has helped my husband alot
along with taking his meds for it. Yes
insulin is a thing which no one wants to
do but if you have to do it you have to
look at the positive things it will bring
so you wont be brought down by the fact.
For example with high sugar insulin may
control it better with better blood sugars
you can prolong the effects of bad eye
sight, circulation, nerve damage, etc.
I wish you the best. Keep up updated.
And hey if at any time you need to talk
you can always come on here or find a chat
room with someone you can just have listen
to you
