Please Help! :( Too Many Mixed Messages

I've been having a really frusterating, scary week.

I've been on kariva (generic) since october, and before that I was on ortho-tri cyclen lo. I've never had a problem whatsoever, but I switched because otc was making me really depressed at certain times of the month. Kariva has been good to me..I've gotten my period at the same time every month with no worries...Until this month.

I'm supposed to get my period this friday, but I started bleeding sunday. Its been like a light period, and i've had cramps also. It's a dark brown color, not as red as my usual period. I called the doctor but unfortanetly my doctor never calls me back, just some other gynecologist who works there. She basically told me that I might need a new pill, but "to take a pregnancy test to reassure myself." I didn't need reassuring until she said that.

So of course, I started freaking out and looking online at signs of pregnancy. Could this be early pregnancy spotting? I'm so scared. The first night I was bleeding (sunday) my boyfriend and I had sex. Was I not protected when I was bleeding? I took an hpt and it came out negative but I think I did it wrong. What happens if I don't get my period friday?

Really concerned, upset.... :o

Hi there! Hasn't anyone told you that birth control is not 100% effective and please do not get me wrong, I am not telling you or anyone not to take it. When you change your b/c method or pill it takes awhile for your system to adjust.
Good luck!
Keep us posted to what you find out!
Sincerely,
sandy

Well, that doesn't really make me feel much better.

Obviously, I know that it isn't 100% effective, but when your doctor tells you that you have nothing to worry about, you don't. Maybe I shouldn't listen to anyone anymore.

I'm so sick of worrying.

Hello! I don't know if what I have to say will be of any help but it sounds like you really need an ally right now!!

I have been having the same problem!! Just this past friday I started my period when I was not supposed to start until 2 wks from then!! I am totally freaking out! Currently I am on ortho tricyclen lo but before that I was on the depo shot and that really messed me up. I bled for 5 months straight then finally switched to lo and thought that I was fine until now.

All that I can tell you is that you should really try to get an appointment made with a professional. I have and my app. Is a month away, I can only pray that the gyno will be able to help me.

I know that I didn't really help you but you sounded like you needed someone who shared your concern!

It is common to occasionally have irregular bleeding or breakthrough bleeding, no matter what kind of bc you are on. Sometimes you may even skip a month totally. If you have taken all your pills when you were supposed to and not missed any, then you have nothing to worry about.
