Insulin Levels Vs. Blood Sugar Levels Posted: 06-09-05 15:12pm
Does anyone know where I can get info on
what the corresponding insulin level in
the blood should be for a given glucose
reading? I asked to have insulin levels
checked with my last round of blood tests.
My blood glucose level was 115 and the
insulin level was 6.0. The readout says
the range for insulin is 6.0 - 27.0.
That puts me on the low side, but I am
hoping it is because glucose levels were
relatively low.
Thanks in advance.

The insulin level I think is of interest
but some diabetes docs dont think it
matters
i dont think theres much of a relationship
between it and the bloodsugar levels

why not? My endo said it doesn't matter,
and I was floored. If you do an insulin
test at the time of the glucose test, it
can tell you some important things. For
instance, if my sugar was high, and
insulin was low, it would suggest I don't
make enough insulin and may need to
consider shots. If sugar is normal and
insulin is high, i'm resistant and need to
work on improving my sensitivity.
The most valuable is to compare it over
time, in my opinion. Anyway, that was
the last straw when he said that and that
he didn't see why I took any supplements
since they wouldn't make any difference.
Before I started, I was starting to
experience more and more pain from
neuropathy. That has since stopped and I
only get an occassional twitch or cramp
and that's because of alpha lipoic acid.
I'm quickly learning most medical doctors
don't know as much about this as I do, so
I fired him.
