Smoking And Pregnancy Posted: 06-11-05 23:33pm
Hey there :(
well i've given up smoking before pretty
easily but now when I try to give up
smoking the stress gets me too much and I
keep slipping,
can anyone tell me stories of giving up
when they found out they were pregnant?
Just to help me out a bit, thanks.

I've never smoked cigarettes, but I know a
lot of people who've quit during their
pregnancy. It's hard, but you can do it
for your baby. Make sure to buy lots of
gum, and maybe sunflower seeds, and keep
yourself busy. :)

Just think about the baby and what is
really important to him/her. You can do
it.

Yea but i've tried, I know I have to do it
but when I did it I had really bad
withdrawals I was screaming, crying and I
felt like I wanted to bash everyone,
wouldn;t that stress harm the baby as
well?
Am I better off just quitting cold turkey
or weaning myself off them?

You need to get yourself into the right
state of mind. Think its not about me
any more I cant be selfish, I have to put
my baby first. Smoking can cause so many
problems for your baby. Have you ever
seen a baby use an inhalor? Its probably
one of the saddest things I have ever
seen. I mean imagine how small your
childs lungs are. As a mother its your
job to protect your child from harm. If
someone tried to hurt your baby wouldn't
you do everything in your power to keep it
safe?? I'm sorry I dont mean to lecture
you on something I am sure that you
already know. Talk to your doctor about
options to help you quit. Good luck and
be strong

you should try to wean yourself off of
them. Find out what makes you smoke. Do
you smoke after you eat? Do you smoke
because you are bored? As soon as you get
in a car do you need to smoke? If you can
relate what behaviors triggers cravings
you can find something other to do. Such
as when I used to smoke the first thing I
did when I got into a car was light a
cigarette...So instead I would get in my
car and grab a sucker or piece of candy.
This helped alot.
I used to smoke but I quit nearly 4 years
ago. It was really hard but I found that
if I could occupy myself with something I
didn't feel the need to smoke....Plus I
asked people not to smoke around me for
the first month or so and I avoided smokey
places.
It's really great to have someone help you
quit and by him quitting also your chances
of quitting will be increased :) good
luck!!
You can do it!!

Do not let him smoke in front of you!!
You have cut back so that is progress just
don't give up!! That's my advice.
Have you talked to your doctor about
stopping smoking? He/she may be able to
give you some good advice....
Good luck..

If I cut down to only 1 a day will it make
it easier to stop once my body gets used
to only a little nicotine hit instead of
20 a day?
