Still Having Swallowing Problems Post Oesophagectomy.
Posted: 06-13-05 08:24am

Hi
last year I had an oesophagectomy done but have since had swallowing problems due to anastomosis scar tissue narrowing.
I am now looking into and may have to have another operation called cricopharyngeal myotomy ( cut through the top gullet valve down through the join with my stomach).
Has anyone else had this operation?? Still have to have dilatations every 6-8 weeks?? I would be glad to hear from you.

I just joined this site, it seems like such a great place to discuss stomach issues :)

i'm not sure if it is the same thing, but I had a laporascopic myotomy for achalasia. I have not had any severe problems with swallowing since (i still have slow swallowing on breads and rice). That was three years ago and I have not had to have any other surgeries or procedures. It has given me acid reflux though so I am on prilosec for the rest of my life as a result.

Achalasia

Hello!

I am 17 years old. When I was 10 years old I got achalasia. I took the barium swollow. The doctors said I should get the ballooning etc. I did not feel the lord leading me that way. I looked for a health alternative instead. It has paid off!! My eating habits are whole grains(soaked when possible to digest the gluten and reduce phytic acid), red meat, chicken, eggs(get the best quality of the last three), raw sheep milk(i make kefir out of it) fruits and veggies, kombucha kvass, and different lacto-fermented foods. My supplements are naka greens, rehydrate, spectromin, and molasses. I have been seeing marked improvement since I have been going to an acupuncturest this time last year. He first got me cleaned internally, acupuncture furthered the cleansing. Right now he is working with my craniel nerves. They are to do with swollowing. Look it up if you have time! :d always remember to stay positive!!! And do your deep breathing!! Lots of times spent outdoors. And exercise! The herbs and food that I found helpful follows. Peppermint oil taken 10 minutes or right before meal, wine with meal, onions(raw), kombucha with meal, nerve herb tonic, herbal bitters,.I think that is all. :)
please do not get any surgery the doctors recomend for achalasia. It is not the cure!! In almost all cases it worsens the problem. Or it gives you another problem sometimes worse then before! You will never get free of it going the medical doctors route.!!!!!!!!!

When I got achalasia I was 10 years old at 73 pounds. I was really bad at my school work and wasn't gaining. Now I am 17 years old at 5 feet 6 3/4 inches and 115 pounds. I am doing well with my school. Best at spelling. My achalasia is steadily improving. I can hardly wait till I am cured!!!! :d :!:
if you have any questions please contact me! I will be glad to help in any way I can!!
