I have had tmj for many years and I have
found huge relief with acupuncture. I
went for acupuncture for sinus problems
and ended up having the acupuncturist
treat me for tmj as well. I have had
relief from pain, I still grind my teeth
but much less now(so my husband says), my
jaw does not hurt in the morning and my
jaw has actually shifted into a normal
position. I use to have to yawn out of
the side of my mouth which I do not have
to do now. I can open my mouth wider
without the clicking and grinding. It
only took 4 treatments. I am going for a
5th treatment and that should be the end
of it for now. I just wanted to give
someone some hope that there is help out
there! It might not owrk for everyone but
it is one of those things that will not
hurt to try.

That's really good to hear you got relief
with only 4-5 treatments. I'm going this
afternoon for about my 20th treatment and
I was feeling great because when I have
acupuncture I get maybe 1-2 days (max)
reduction in pain and improved jaw
opening. Where abouts did your
acupuncturist put the needles in? I
usually have five or six needles, mainly
on the left side in and aroun the tmj area
and usually one stuck in to the top of my
hand in that fleshy part between the thumb
and index finger. Does that resemble what
you have done at all?

Glad to hear people vote for acupuncture.
Acupuncture not only gives you pain relief
but also treat underlying of the causes,
stress and anxiety. Generally, for about
5 to 10 sessions of treatment people can
get long term of pain relief.
A number of strictly designed clinical
trials showed acupuncture can be a good
alternative therapy for tmj. One of the
trial even showed better result than
splint therapy. Detailed articles can be
