Lower Back Pain + Rectal Pressure Posted: 06-14-05 12:59pm
I'm desperate to find someone who can tell
me i'm not crazy. Ever since march, when
I had a colonoscopy, I have had a feeling
of rectal 'pressure/pain' accompanied by
some lower back pain around my belt line
on the right side. I've been diagnosed
with prostatitis, then treated. My gi
doctor has done every test known and
cleared me. Now i'm at an orthopaedist,
who doesn't seem to think it's a herniated
disc or ruptured disc. I haven't had an
injury. So no one can tell me what it
is.
Now I have this constant pressure. I
can't really call it pain, but to call it
pressure doesn't quite describe how
distracting and life changing its been.
Has anyone experienced this? I'm
searching for answers. Any answers.

Have the doctors had you on any
narcotic/opioid type of pain medicine or
by some chance do you use these types of
medicine regularly?
If yes, it could easily be the effect of
these medicines on your ability to go to
the bathroom and so you have pressure from
constipation. If you do use these
medicines, you are going to need a pretty
strong stool softener to reverse the
effect.
If no medicines are used, ask the
orthopedic spine doc to do some of the
more aggressive tests like myleogram/disc
o gram and even better, have an mri done
to rule out disc problems.
Keep on the doctors, they will do just
about anything to get you fixed if you do
a but of squeeking to keep them looking at
you! "the squeeky wheel gets the oil" is
how you will have to treat this!

Have you had x-rays recently? Even a mild
form of scoliosis, with a curve in just
the right spot can cause that also.

Rectal Pressure Posted: 03-06-06 23:12pm
For about the past year I have been having
some rectal pressure but mostly at night
and not all the time. It's driving me
crazy. It wakes me up and then it hurts
and I can't go back to sleep. My ob gyn
says it's due to menopause. I don't know
what to do to stop it. Please help if
anyone knows. I do not have any back
problems whatsoever.

I have been going through this for the
past 4 years right after my car
accident, I to have gone to every doctor
imaginable I have had a colonoscopy
everything came back neg my general
health is fine, except for my back injury,
which I currently have herniation at the
l4 l5 area degenerative disk disease,
athritis, because of the disk and
herniation it could also be causing nerve
damage, therefore I suffer with rectal
pressure, and bladder pain, even though
its not a pain, its the most awful,
annoying feeling , if you have a back
injury its most likely the cause of your
problem

The only thing is: I do not have back
problems and never did. So I am assuming
it is something else. All I know is it's
a miserable feeling and I wouldn't wish it
on my worst enemy.

Being that its not a back injury, I have
a friend who is a male, and he had a
vasectomy, and right after the procedure,
give a few days, he started experiencing
the same thing as you, and the doctor told
him its prostatitis excuse the spelling,
any way its something that wont go away,
the only thing the doctor told him was to
avoid caffeine, and alcohol, hes gone for
different testing, different doctors and
all said the same thing, im not sure if
you have done any research on this, but
evidently thats one of the symptoms, hope
this helps, good luck, hope you find the
answer your looking for, I unfortunately
seem like im the only one that has this
problem because of my back injury, trust
me I know exactly what your going through,
I know it sucks, its depressing, but I
wont give up until I get my self back to
100%,

I didnt realize you were treated for
prostatitis, if everything has come back
neg for other testing, yhen like I stated
above, my friend has the same thing, and
thats the reason why is because of the
prostatitis, do some research maybe
theres something out there to help, if so
let me know so I can pass it on

Now the only thing is I am not a male so I
can't have problems with my prostrate. My
doctor did think it mide be related to
menopause. If it is I still do not know
how to stop this terrible pressure.

Sorry, another possibility is if you
strain when making a bowel movement, or
gas buildup, even though ive been
diagnosed with having a back injury, I
still feel like its something else, I just
dont understand the whole back and nerve
anatomy, , I have done so much research on
the innernet, there was actually another
lady who was on this site, experiencing
the same thing, she never responded back
to let me know, what her diagnosis is, I
know having this pressure is annoying no
one understands what your going through,
when it happened to me 4 yrs ago, I became
very depressed, and withdrawn from people,
its the most god awful, feeling I dont
know if my nerves made it worse not
knowing what it was I was constantly
worrying to the point it made me sick, and
after going through extensive testing and
being told it wwas my back, im able to
relax some, so it has gotten better for
me, please if you find out anything as to
what can be your problem let me know. I
wish you luck, and hope you get some
answers

I found out something new having a fibroid
uteris can cause these symptoms, it can
also cause lower back pain pelvic pain and
bladder problems, kind of makes me wonder
if maybe this is my problem and not my
back, but I would think by having a gyn
exam would show if you have fibroids, im
not sure like I said I am always looking
for something else something that is
curable, as to my back isnt well hope
this helps

I think it is me you are referring to on
this post. Yes this is gawd-awful, and
my diagnosis is pudendal neuralgia, mostly
by exclusion and verified by 2 - ct guided
pudendal nerve blocks. Below I have
listed a web site that is also symptomatic
of what this could be. Unfortunatley -
the burning pain I suffer was directly
after a gyn exam and subsequent
uti/infection of some sort. I developed
the foreign object feeling, then the
burning, and it hasn't stopped for 2
years. It is very, very debilitating.
I have been checked out for everything as
well - negative to all..... Spend time at
tipna.Org and pudendal.Info
Hi C-Jones - I think my username expired
so I had to re-register. (New username is
Josie) I am now post op surgery for
pudendal nerve entrapment. My EMG &
PMNLT scores proved the nerve was
definitely entraped. I am doing well,
still in some pain, recovery is slow when
you are dealing with nerves. the "Ball"
feeling is gone. The surgery is no picnic
and it is very much a personal choice.
You can read all about it on Tipna.org or
pudendal.info whatever you do, you must
scream for pain management. this disease
is treacherous, don't give up the fight.

Tailbone, Spine and Nerve Injury from first and last colonoscopy Posted: 06-01-08 21:14pm
I was a healthy 50
year old woman who had minor health
problems. Very active with my first
grandchild and always on the go. My doctor
sent me for my first and last colonoscopy.
I have rectal nerve damage in the spine,
chronic right pudenal nerve damage. I have
tailbone pain for 2 years since I had my
first colonscopy. I am on a walker,
sometimes I use canes, and have been in
physical therapy alot. I have developed
neuropathy and have constant pain
everyday. My legs are wobbly, weak and
numb. I have been told that there is
nothing that can be done for me.
Wan't to talk with fellow patients who
have spinal, pelvic or leg/foot injuries
following colonoscopy procedure.
I am in pain 24 hours a day since March 8,
2007.

Hello Eppshome,
NO, you are NOT crazy. Somehow you need
to find a doctor who understands your
syptoms and knows what to do to take care
of your problem. In my humble opinion,
you need to go beyond GPs and GYNs. You
need to see some specialists. Specialists
in varies fields. Regarding the back
pain, may I suggest that you seek a spinal
surgeon. Regarding the rectal issues,
perhaps it would be a good idea to see a
doctor who specializes in that area.
