Gallbladder Removed 8 Yrs Ago And I Am Having the Same Pain Posted: 06-14-05 23:46pm
I had my gallbladder removed 8 yrs ago and
had this pain off and on for years.
Recently went into the hospital for
pneumonia and was on steroids for a long
time. I have gained over 25 lbs and the
pain under my right rib is constant and is
very severe. I have told my Dr. And he
sent me to a surgeon who then sent me to a
gastroenerologist. So far all I have are
20 different meds and my potassium level
is dangerously high. I am very scared and
cry alot because of the pain and I don't
know where else to turn. Can someone
please give me some advice? I would
dearly appreciate it!!!!!!! The pain I am
experencing is the same as if I had my
gallbladder back. Thanks for your time!!

Hi! My daughter (13 at the time) had her
gallblader removed and within a month had
the same recurrent pain. She now has been
diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis. I am
not saying that is what you have.
However, asked about sphincter of oddi
dysfunction. This can cause the exact
pain of a gallbladder attack. What
happens is the small spincter muscles at
the end of the common bile duct and the
pancreatic duct can be too tight and cause
a ballooning effect, which causes severe
pain.
Good luck!

i too have had my gallbladder removed1996,
due to pancreatites. How ever I was
deveststed that it didn't go away. I knew
it immediatley after I camr e out of
surgery. I was livid, because they said
70% sure thats what its was. Well my
problem was caused by steriods,
prednisone, solumedrol.. Everytime my
asthma is sever I take prednisone and my
pancrease flares up, but doesn't sshow up
on blood work. But it does show up on ct
scan, you just need to eat something that
irritates it the night before, in order to
show what the pancrease is doing. Signs
of pancreatites is not just pain, but
nausea.. Don't give up , keep fighting,
try eating fresh pinapple, amazing
results. Less attacts, down to 3 a day
from 7 .. Keep it up and let me know how
your doing?? Wp

hi, I had my gall bladder removed nearly 3
years ago & have been experiencing the
same pain. I have since had 3 ultra
sounds, 2 endoscopies, an ercg, an mri
(which showed up 2 duodenal diverticulums
near the pancreas, also showed I was born
with a divided pancreas) a barium meal
(which showed a 3rd diverticulum). My
cousin had her gall bladder out & also
has a diverticulum. My sister-in-law had
her gall bladder out & has been
experiencing the same pain. Pain in the
gut, radiating to the back. These pains
occur every 6 weeks, with a build up of
small pains occuring in the 5th week. I
am at the moment on a soft diet (no
grains, pips or seeds.) the
gastroenerologist I am seeing first told
me the pain was caused by the
diverticulum, he thought he could remove 2
of them , but the 3rd was too close to the
bile ducts to remove. Now he has put me
on this diet to prove that it isn't the
diverticulums that are causing the pain,
but he thinks it is my pancreas. In other
words, if I go on the diet & I still
get pain ,it is not the
diverticulums.Frustrating, I feel I am
getting no where, but I am persisting.
The pain is so severe , my husband wants
to phone for an ambulance. But I tell him
I have to ride it through. Some times the
pain lasts between 1 & 4 hours. I
hope I have given you something you can
take to your specialist & he may send
you for more tests. Please keep in touch
& let me know how you go. I will also
keep in touch & hopefully soon I will
get some results. I do not go to the
specialist until the middle of may. In
the meantime he has given me some endone
tablets to take the edge off the pain when
I get a bad attack. All the best, anne

Multiple Attacks Per Day Posted: 03-30-06 07:50am
Hello,
if you are having multiple attacks per day
it could very likely be caused by sod -
sphincter of oddi dysfunction. This is
where the pressure is high in either the
common bile duct or the pancreatic duct.
The only way to determine if this is the
cause is to have an ercp done at a
teaching hospital. Generally speaking
they are the only facilities to have the
equipment to measure pressures. Normal
pressure is less than 40.
Also please note: morphine and morphine
derivatives will make the pain a lot worse
and should be avoided in those with sod.
No one knows what causes sod. Whether
the pancreatitis or the sod comes first is
also unknown. But the pain and other
symptoms are the same.
The best doctor in the country for ercps
with pressure measurement is Dr. Lehman
in indy. If you would like his contact
information please let me know.

Thank you for your help. I will check it
out, but I can't see the same doctor as
you as I am in australia.
