I had a miscarriage in early may and had
to have a d&c. It has been almost 6
weeks since. Does anyone know when I
might expect my first period? I was told
it could take upto 6 weeks and I am a
little anxious as it hasn't happened yet.
Would anyone like to share their
experience?
The miscarriage was devastating (it was my
first pregnancy) but I am trying to stay
positive and we would like to start trying
again soon.

Sorry for your loss. I've had 2
miscarriages before. After my last one
where I had a d&c I bled for about 3
weeks and then did not get a period for
about another 2 months or so , so maybe a
total of 11 weeks after the miscarriage
when I finally got my first "real"
period.
And don;t despair, it just wasn't the
right time. I was really nervous as I
was 19 for my last miscarriage and then
didn't even have a pregnancy "scare" for 6
yrs. Now I am due in 10 days.

After a Miscarriage Posted: 06-15-05 17:37pm
Hey!
I am so sorry for your loss. It is never
easy to deal with. I just recently had a
miscarriage on may 25th. I was 6 weeks 1
day when I miscarried. My doctor told me
and my hubby that my period should return
in about 4 to 6 weeks. I have done some
research on the internet and my thoughts
are the miscarriage acts as a period.
Sometimes even coming at the time a normal
period would come. That is the way it
happened with me. It was 2 weeks after
my 6 week ultrasound that I miscarried.
The baby had not grown since then and had
no heart beat when I went for another
ultrasound at what would have been 7 weeks
and a few days. So my body expelled
everything naturally but on the date I
would have normally had a period. I took
an ovulation test today and it is positive
for ovulation which would be when I would
have normally ovulated after a period.
Along about 18-19 days instead of 14 like
most. So that would lead me to believe
that the miscarriage, for me, happened
around period time. I hope this helps
you. Good luck and god bless you.
Oh yeah, my dr said we didn't have to wait
to ttc again. I guess that could depend
on the circumstances too.
Again good luck.

I never got a period at all -- at my 1
mo-after-d&c checkup, I was
miraculously pregnant (maybe it was just a
"twin" waiting in the wings???). No idea
how that happened, as it was not the most
comfortable or romance-inducing experience
i've ever had.
I'd say if you feel fine, start trying
again (if that was your plan). My
experience seemed to be once everything
was "cleaned out", implantation was much
easier.
Good luck, whatever you do.

Thanks for all your input. Like you said
2boys4us, I have been told that a d&c
cleans you out and does make implantation
easier. And my doc said to wait for my
first period after and then start trying.
That's what i'll probably end up doing.
But it is comforting to know that the
first period could take longer than
expected. Good luck with your delivery,
blaze.
Prayingeveryday, sorry for your loss too.
Hope you are feeling ok. I think you are
right about these things happening around
the normal period time, because my
miscarriage started at week 8 with a tiny
bit of bleeding that went away by morning.
I had an ultrasound 2 days after that and
everything seemed fine (baby had a
heartbeat and size was normal). At my 11
week check up, like your experience, it
had no heartbeat and had hardly grown
since the last ultrasound. If I had
waited another week, it probably would
have started to come away on it's own but
I had the d&c before that. Thanks for
sharing and if you're planning to try
immediately, good luck with that.
