Gum Infection.
Posted: 06-17-05 05:25am

Ive been in pain for days.... I got told I have a gum infection, its like there is a lump on the back of my last tooth (wisdom I guess) on my bottom teeth, hurts when I swallow, and sometimes when I open my mouth.
My mum said its an abcsess...And that I might have to get it taken out... The tooth.... But when I go to the dentist.. Im going to tell them, to have some other way, I do not want it pulled out..

Ive never had this before....
Im on painkillers til im able to get antibiotics...
Does anyone think I can get this better withouty having my tooth pulled..
I mean, its not on the tooth its behind it..

Often gum infections spread to other teeth which is why dentists pull the tooth out. If it spreads to all the teeth only more teeth will have to be pulled out and I am sure you don't want that!!

But if the infection is not severe, you may only need antibiotics to get better and none of the other stuff. Seeing a dentist as soon as possible would be your best bet. Tell them that you really do not want your teeth pulled out and if you hvae other options.

Good luck to you, take care.

Yeah, thanks... I will ask for anything else but getting it pulled... I just hope that its not a real bad infection.
And ya know maybe it hasnt spread to the other teeth.
Is there anyway to tell if it has?.

A sign of a spreading gum infection is more pain in the other teeth, the gums near other teeth becoming soft/tender/sensitive, all the teeth becoming sensitive to hot/cold etc.

Sometimes only a dentist can tell. Hope it hasn't spread. Keep me posted on how you are doing. :)
