I'm new to this board, and I wanted to
share/ask if anyone else has intermittent
shivers. I'm not sure what they are,
they're very random, and i'm not certain
if I should tell my doctor about them.
I don't want to mention them if they
aren't significant or if they might just
be a random occurrence. She did ask me
if I have seizures, and I am certain these
couldn't be seizures.
At completely random times/intervals (but
perhaps more frequently when I am very
tired), I get a random, uncontrollable
shiver. My head twitches, or my eyes
jitter a little. They never last more
than a second or two, and i'm perfectly
aware the entire time. Still, I haven't
noticed any of my friends or relatives
having "random shivers" and i'm not sure
if this is something I should mention to
my rheumy. Do any of you experience
these kinds of disturbances? They
happen very infrequently, and are so brief
that it hardly seems worth troubling
myself about, but it makes me wonder.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I definitely think that you should mention
any strange symptom, no matter how small
or insignificant it seems to you. It
might be a sign of the on-set of something
happening. You might just want to call
your doctor and ask that he gives you a
call if he can not talk when you call.
Just ask him if you should be
concerned.... Another thing is
medication, have any changes been made?
Could be a factor?
Also, I have experienced shivers before,
but I later found out that I was going
through withdrawls from a pain medication
the doctor had me on. Of course when the
doctor realized what was happening, he put
me back on the med and then weaned me off
of it the proper way. But if I had not
have mentioned it to him, lord knows what
I would've continued to go through.
Hope this helps!

Thanks. That does help. I haven't had
any change in medication since february.
Strangely, the shivvers seem to have let
up since I started plaquenil (at least, I
think they have... They're so random it's
hard to tell).
I was just curious to see if anyone else
had experienced something like this.
Someone told me, after seeing a shivver,
that I should read up on "partial
seizures" and their comment got me
thinking. Since I was under the
impression that a seizure was a seizure, I
figured that I didn't get them. She said
that some people have seizures in specific
areas and don't experience any
unconsciousness at all. Normally those
last a few minutes, but since mine only
last a few seconds, I doubt that's what it
is.

Been There Done That Too.. :) Posted: 06-23-05 16:38pm
I have them also.. Have had for quite
some time now. I never thought they
could be seizures either.. But since I
have them quite often now, i'm beginning
to wonder.
You can feel your whole body shivering for
no reason. I think i'll be asking my ra
doc about it, this next time I go in too..
:p
seriously.. To tell ya the truth.. I
thought I was just an oddball.. I'm glad
someone else posted about it.. :d

Hi,
here are some sites you can check out that
talk about shivers:
please tell your doctor and make sure that
you stress your concern and the urgency of
knowing what's going on!
I hope this helps!

Shivers Posted: 06-25-05 12:51pm
Hi, i'm new here, but not to sle - I was
diagnosed in 1993. I don't exactly have
shivers, but have developed tremors -
mostly in my left leg and hand, sometimes
moving on to my head. (for awhile I
thought it may be all in my head, but it's
not.) I was retired on disability in 2002
for seizures. I'm now seeing a
neurologist and she thinks the sle may be
affecting my brain. Exciting, huh? I
would report any odd symptoms immediately.
