Hi, i've had tmj for awhile now. 2 months
ago I yawned and my jaw was dislocated. I
managed to pop it into place but the pain
was so severe I went to er the next day.
They did xrays and refered me to an ent
and gave me 2 types of meds. I went to
this doc and he said that he didn't deal
with that type of problem. So I began to
call orthodontists. All of them wanted a
fee of 300.00 to 500.00 . I cannot afford
that. So I let it alone. Well today,
6-19 my jaw popped out again. I manage to
get it back into place, but the muscle
spasms and pain are intense. I cannot
open my mouth....I don't know what to do.
I am afraid to go to the er again with the
fear that they are going to misjudge me.
Please help. I don't know what to do. :(
thanks :)

My dentist gave me muscle relaxers to help
with the muscle pain in my jaw. He also
fitted me for a night guard (i grind my
teeth at night). You can also buy the
mouth guards that football players use at
a sporting goods store. Just follow the
directions on how to mold it (it's a lot
cheaper!).
Anyway, if you haven't seen a dentist, go!
He should be able to help you out. I
have had very few tmj reoccurances since
and this was almost 10 years ago!
Good luck!

I popped my jaw yelling at a soccer game
15 years ago. It was so painful I really
couldn't bear to eat for several days.
The orthodontist was of no help, although
I did end up getting braces again as an
adult. Anyway, the clicks and other
annoyances have slowly gone away, but I am
forever careful of what I eat, taking
small bites, especially of hard foods like
carrots and apples. I know this doesn't
help much in the short term but I think
that once you have tmj, you have to make
some lifestyle changes (stop yawning?) and
there are no quick fixes. Just know that
you are not alone, not at all!

:d thanks for your replies! I bit the
bullet and went to the er the next day.
They weren't to helpful, but at least my
pain was addressed. They gave me a shot
and some medication for pain to take home.
I am going to go see the orthodontist
tomorrow. Hopefully he can get the night
guard thing going. I have chronic
abdominal pain have had it for 18 years
 so this just adds to everthing.
I had suspected tmj for a long time now, I
guess I shouln't have waited so long to
get it treated. I know I clench my teeth
at night because I wake up and my jaw is
so painful it takes me an hour to loosen
the muscles. I just wish this type of
problem was taken alittle more seriously.
I guess it isn't even recongnized my the
ama. Well, sorry so long, thank again
guys. If I can be of any help to any of
you please do not hesitate to ask! :)

Try a holistic dentist - thats what I see
and hes been great. Hes got countless
degrees in tmj so really knows what he is
doing. The footy mouthguards are a
cheaper option, but if you ground as badly
as most tmj sufferers do these wont last
long. Tmj splints are made of resilient
plastic and last much longer. The splint
that only covers 4 teeth or so is better
then a full one, because your front teeth
know not to touch together and so stop
doing it when the splints there. If you
have a full one, your back teeth may
continue to grind. Although some people
have had luck with the full, if your
condition is bad enough itll be a waste of
money
