Around a year and a half ago I was hit by
a car (i was a pedestrian). I hurt for a
few days, but there didn't seem to be any
lasting effects. Around 4 or 5 months
later, I couldn't move my neck one day. I
figured it was because I slept in an odd
position, and didn't think much of it
since it was fine the next day. It then
happened again around 2 weeks later, but
once again I didn't think much of it.
Within the next 2 or 3 months my back
started hurting. At first it was only in
the small of my back, and it was fairly
inconsistant. It only hurt when I put too
much stress on it. Nowadays it'll
randomly hurt, things such as lifting a
box or vacuuming will make it hurt, ect.
I also now experience pain around my neck.
Around 2 or 3 inches down past my
shoulder, I have a kind of sharp pain
around an inch to the left of my
vertebrae. It radiates out and up from
there, up to the middle of the left of my
neck.
Some days i'll be fine, and other days
i'll just want to lay down. My parents
are reluctant to bring me to a doctor
because they say the pain is because I
don't exercise enough (darn this computer.
:p) and a lot of it is in my head. I
know exercising would probably help a bit,
but it really hurts to do a lot of
stretching.
Does anyone know what could be wrong,
exactly, what I can do to help it, ect?
Should my parents bring me to the doctor,
or is there nothing that will help besides
exercise?
By the way, i'm a 16 year old female.
Nothing else is wrong with me, and i've
never experienced back problems before the
car accident.
Thanks.

I had x-rays taken after the accident and
was looked over by two different doctors.
None of them saw anything wrong with me,
and I didn't think that anything was wrong
at the time. I was perfectly fine until
a few months later.
And no, i'm not overweight. I exercise
some -- I go swimming in our pool 2 or 3
times a week, I play dance dance
revolution/stretch 2 or 3 times a week,
and i'm always moving around.. Even when
i'm sitting. I go out with friends, and
really, just do normal 16 year old stuff.
Yet my parents feel that, because I do
spend a large portion of my day on the
computer and/or playing video games, i'm
not exercising as much as I should be.
Besides the back pain, I feel perfectly
healthy. I can run the mile faster than
almost anyone in my grade, i'm stronger
than most girls my age, and before I
started feeling pain I could stretch and
bend every which way.
