Hello...I'm 25 and I just started birth
contol pills for the first time this
month. I wanted to start the pill before
I had sex for the first time. I am on
ortho-lo and I actually didn't end up
waiting it completely out, as I ended up
having sex the first day I took the pill,
but my pills were a sunday start so I was
supposed to wait a week before they
started beign effective. We did use a
condom and since it was my first time, he
wasn't in very long and didn't finish.
During my first week of pills, I was very
nauseated and on two separate days, I
threw up. I've read about vomitting
lessening the effectiveness of the pill,
but i've also heard that is if you throw
up within two hours of taking the pill.
Both days, I threw up around 5 hours
later, so i'm hoping I didn't puke it out
of my system. Anyway, around the 10th
day on the pill, I had sex with my
boyfriend again a few times. We
attempted to use the condom but we were
having some slippage problems so he ended
up taking it off. Every time we've had
sex, he has pulled out a good amount of
time before finishing.
Today, I am about to take my 4th sugar
pill and I still have not gotten my
period. My doctor told me to use backup
for a week, which we did, and that I
should get my period during the time I
take the 7 sugar pills and here I am on
the 4th with nothing. I am extremely
worried that I am pregnant. On which day
of the 7 sugar pills is it most common to
start your period? Is this normal?
Should I go out and get a test? I'm
freaking out. I really do not want a
baby and i'm kicking myself for not going
out and finding better condoms and just
using backup all of the time.

Okay...I will try to relax, but it is kind
of hard not to think about the
possibility...People have told me worrying
is only going to help make my period
later, but it is hard to distract myself,
especially since I am new at all of this,
with no experience to rely on...
About the waiting this long...Well, I
wanted to make sure I really loved the
person I was going to lose my virginity to
and it just happened that it took me until
I was 25 to find him...I've dated a few
definite bad ones and I suppose you have
to go through that to get to the good...
Thanks for the response...

I have noticed this question poppin up a
lot. Considering the fact that I posted
about it myself!!
From what i've read on this forum, it
seems normal to not get your period in the
first few das... So you and me both will
just have to cross our fingers!

Just so you know the pill will not kick in
the first day you started using it. You
have to take the pill for a while before
it really gets in your system and your
body gets used to it. I would use a back
up method for your whole first cycle.
Vomiting wouldnt have made a difference
either way. Sorry i'm not trying to scare
you or anything, this is just what my
doctor told me. Also never rely on
pulling out. Semen leaks out the whole
time they guy is horny.

I read on a medical site that if you start
the pills the first day after your period
that the protection starts immediately.
I happened to use condoms during the first
month, but I also had completely
unprotected sex twice. However, I now
have my period, on day 4 of the
sugar/placebo pills.
