Has anyone ever heard of this blood
disease? My mom has it and it's a
hereditary condition in my family. I am
concerned because my mom's cholesterol and
trygliceride levels are sky high...Both
pushing 1000! Yes, you read right! She
is scared and isn't doing too much about
it. But, i've been trying to tell her
that she could have a heart attack at any
time w/ levels that high. Anyone have any
advice, suggestions, etc?

Sorry to hear about your mom.
Here is some info on hyperlipidemia:
hyperlipidemia
what is hyperlipidemia?
Hyperlipidemia is an elevation of lipids
(fats) in the bloodstream. These lipids
include cholesterol, cholesterol esters
(compounds), phospholipids and
triglycerides. They're transported in the
blood as part of large molecules called
lipoproteins.
These are the five major families of blood
(plasma) lipoproteins:
chylomicrons
very low-density lipoproteins (vldl)
intermediate-density lipoproteins (idl)
low-density lipoproteins (ldl)
high-density lipoproteins (hdl)
what are the types of hyperlipidemia?
When hyperlipidemia is defined in terms of
a class or classes of elevated
lipoproteins in the blood, the term
hyperlipoproteinemia is used.
Hypercholesterolemia is the term for high
cholesterol levels in the blood.
Hypertriglyceridemia refers to high
triglyceride levels in the blood.
Take care, I hope your mom feels better.

Thanks for the info. I should have been
more clear...I know exactly what the
condition is. I just wanted to know if
anyone had any advise for someone who has
the disease with such high cholesterol and
triglyceride levels. I was thinking of
looking into specialists?
Any help, advise, suggestions would be
greatly appreciated. My mom is 54 and has
always monitored it w/ medication, diet
and exercise. But, it's not working,
obviously. Thanks!
