Rapid Heart Beat Posted: 06-24-05 16:31pm
I have been having rapid heart beat for 2
months. My doc is currently running some
tests, but I think it's likned to my birth
control. But you should get it checked
out it could be a thyroid problem.

If you mean an ecocardiogram my doc
scheduled me for one on aug 2nd. Your
thyroid controls your blood sugar and if
its not working properly it could cause
you to have a rapid pulse. Oh you might
have meant an ekg I did have one, the read
out was 122.

I had a rapid heart beat, it was all
connected to my anxiety and panic attacks.
As soon as I learnt how to control the
anxiety, I learnt how to control my heart
beat.
Mine used to beat so hard and fast I
thought I was going to die of a heart
attack. I had all the medical exams,
ecg's etc but everything was fine.
Pannic and anxiety is a real physical
condition that is mostly controlled by the
mind. There are things you can do to help
beat it. Its not easy and it does take
time, but I can now safely say I have
fully recovered and my life is back to
'normal'!

I had severe anxiety actually! My doctor
put me on diazapan, anti depressants,
valuim the lot!!!!!!!!! My whole life was
controlled by my anxiety. I found it very
hard to get out, when I was at work my
anxiety would lead into a full blown
pannick attack. Trust me, I havent had it
easy. Ive had so many trips to the
hospital and whenever my attacks were very
bad my jaw and other joints would lock.
It was a horrible experience, I had it
tough. My anxiety lasted for 4 years, i'm
walking proof that you can survive! I
havent had an attack in 2 years or felt
anxious. I made sure that I got myself on
track because I used to think if it
carried on I would end my life because I
constantly thought I was dieing.
So dont put down what I know, ive worked
so doing it hard to get to where I am
today.

Cure Posted: 06-28-05 12:23pm
Sarah how did u get over it???? Gazza, if
there was ever a cure it woudnt be from a
doctor. It would be from us, people with
anxiety. How the hell can a docotr have a
cure or help us? All they do is give us
medication. They have no idea what we go
through or what we feel, all they know is
the pills that can help a little if any.
Its up to us to help ourselves. Look at
charles linden, he supposely got rid of
his anxietys, not from a doctor either.
We know more about anxiety and panic then
any doctor because we actually have it.

Hypo,
you say theres no cure but then cite
charles linden.. Also there is lucinda
bassett (midwest center for stress and
anxiety) they both suffered for years from
anxiety until they researched the hell out
of it and came up with solutions, both
saught out guidance from Dr.'s on how to
formalize their solutions and both state
that there is a cure for anxiety.
If you go to a regular Dr. They are not
specialists. You need to seek out lcsw's
psychologist and if you need meds see a
psychiatrist.
Cognitive behavioral therapy, medication
or a mixture of both will get rid of
anxiety.

When I suffered from anxiety and pannick
attacks I didnt really know what they
were. I thought I was the only one until
some friends did some research. I even
thought my doctor didnt really understand
what was going on with me (which she
probably didnt!).
My doc prescribed me everything! Valium,
diazapan, anti-depressants, beater
blockers, the lot! But I wanted to do was
feel 'normal'. I found that because these
drugs made me feel unusual, dopey, tired,
drugged up. They actually werent helping
my condition at all.
I got to the point where life was a
struggle, I would concentrate on every
breath and I was obsessed with my heart
beat. I knew if I didnt do something fast
then I would end up doing something
rash.
I decided to take matters into my own
hands. I was sure the prescription drugs
werent helping so I quit and did my
research. I found out that certain foods
can trigger off anxiety and pannic.
Things like tea, coffee, chocolate, sugar,
alchohol, cigarettes, basicly everything
that perks you up (even some sweets and
colouring have an effect). I cut these
out and started drinking camomile tea
(which naturally relaxes you), I always
had these tea bags on me in case I could
feel things getting to a head. I also
brought some quiet life herbal pills from
the health food shop, again they naturally
relax you without making you feel drugged
or tired (i swear these were my saviour).
I also had lavendar baths etc.
Although these things help, you also need
will power and determination too.
Whenever I felt anxiety come to a head I
would walk it off. I would ask to be left
by myself and go sit alone or go for a
walk, constantly reasuring myself.
Eventually I learnt how to calm myself
down.
Its also good to have a distraction, I
would maybe put on some music or listen to
the tv, but I would always need to be on
my own.
It is hard work, it took me a while to get
to where I am. But I dont get them
anymore and I am leading a 'normal' life.
If I can do it anyone can. I was a right
mess!
*biggest advice though, if your doc puts
you on prescription drugs and all you want
to feel is 'normal', get off them!*

Heart Palpitations Posted: 06-30-05 02:10am
Ive gotton really bad heart
palpitations/rapid heartbeat for most of
this year and found you can easily psych
yourself into it and make it even worse.
I only ever feel convinced that something
is anxiety if everything else has been
ruled out first so you should talk to your
doctor and maybe even ask for a holter
monitor-i asked for one and got results of
my max rate being 135 in a few points
throughout the day so im seeing a
cardiologist at the moment.
I found ruling out any artificial
sweeteners in my diet helped me alot-not
completely made my heart rate slow down
but helped but according to my doctor this
is a pretty rare thing so im not sure if
looking at your diet would help any....
I still have found out no answers to why
my heart has decided to act up just this
year but anything serious has been ruled
out which is the best thing you can do to
try and control the stress that
palpitations bring on.The
hardest part is working out whether you
become stessed after you notice your heart
is beating fast or whether its the other
way around. If its the former then stress
is pretty normal-not good-but normal:)

My heart has been rapidly beating faster
and faster everytime I stand up from
sitting, and then while this is happening
I feel like I cant breathe either.

Someone Help Me Posted: 12-12-07 19:51pm
I am 25 and suffer with random panic
attacks. I was told by my doctor that I
possible suffer with General Anxiety
Disorder as I dont actually hyper
ventilate. I get all the other stuff and
its happens usually when I have been out
for the weekend and had a mad one. I admit
that I take recreational drugs
andsometimes in the week it will effect
me. I use beater blockers and take a
valium and then I sleep and it all goes
away. I have decided that taking
recreational drugs now is obviously not
helping. But is it possible it could be
thyroid ? or something else ? it always
happens when I get intomy car in the
morning just after waking up and driving
to work, never ever just randomly during
the day... I just dont get it. My vision
blurrs and Ican speak very well , I feel
sick and rush to the toilet and just want
to sleep. What should I do ?
