Tegretol to Lamictal. Is It Possible After a Rash? Zonegran?
Posted: 06-24-05 16:17pm

I am currently on lamictal for cyclothmia and it is great. No rash or bad effects thank god.

But my girlfriend is suffering from seizures over the last 4 months and the doctors put her on tegretol (she wanted lamictal but theytold her it was too exspensive). Well it semed to work but then she broke out in a rash after 2 weeks and upping the dosage. So she goes back in and the switched her to zonegran, they said they really wanted to put her on lamictal but the fact that she got a rash from the tegretol means that she would definitley get it from lamictal.

This seemed odd to me. Is it true that is you get a rash from tegretol that you would definitely get one from lamictal? Sounds like a load to me. I have watched her on the zonegran this week and she is not doing well. No sleep, no appetite, mood swings with tears. She definitely looks worn out.
So please let me know about the tegretol to lamictal switch. Has anyone done it after getting a rash from tegretol?
Also share with many any experiences with zonegran if you could.
Thanks!

Hi deborah, thanks for getting back. I am just really concerned about how her nuerologist was so quick to dismiss lamictal after he said it would be best for her. I know I am absolutely loving lamictal, but she may get the rash. I just think given the lack of side effects and its over all usfulness as a mood stabilizer, bipolar drug, anti depressant and seisure med that it is quite simply the closest thing to a miracle pill. Thank you for your input. I am going to do my best to get her into my pdoc. He honestly is the best thing since sliced bread and I have done it all. Dr. Carl young in dallas. Anyhoo. Thanks again.
