I had a root canal a few days ago, and I
was given a temprorary filling until I
could get a crown. I was flossing
earlier tonight, and part of the tooth
chipped off. It's tooth #5, right behind
the canine. The chipped piece is pretty
thin, but it's length is the entire
exposed portion of the tooth. What could
happen as a result, and what should I do?

I've had a root canal before, and i'm
currently going to school to become a
dental hygienist. I would call the
dentist. You don't want anything to get
inside the tooth to cause any type of
infection.

If you dont have a filling to seal the
area there is a possibility that bacteria
from your saliva can re-infect the tooth
causeing the root canal to fail. If that
happends youll be sent to a specialist to
have it redone and that big $$$$. You
also have a greater chance of breaking the
tooth. After a root canal the tooth
becomes weak. That is why you need the
crown asap.
