Diagnosed With Sludge...

:?
I am a 26 year old mother of two and have had very few medical problems in my life. I have pretty severe seasonal allergies and a tendancy to be anemic but other than that I am a fairly healthy young woman. A few days ago I started noticing signs of a uti and began drinking massive amounts of cranberry juice hoping to get rid of it before it became a problem. The next evening, after a very active day out with my son the pain with urination became severe and I began to notice a pain in my right side that I thought was a gas bubble. This was on saturday so I was hoping to ride out the urinary infection untill monday, but when I awoke on sunday morning the pain in my side was still exactly where it was before and had significantly worsened. After about an hour I decided to go on to the er and find out what was wrong. My gallbladder was the first thing they suspected so they did an ultrasound right away. No stones were found, but I was told that it was full of sludge. They decided to go ahead with a ct scan of my kidneys since they knew I had a uti and see if maybe I had kidney stones. Nothing showed up there. So they sent me home with antibiotics for a bladder infection and lortabs for the pain in my side. I was told that surgery was inevitable. They said I needed to follow up with a general surgeon. The appointment isn't for a few more days and i'm trying to find out what to expect. How long after diagnosis with "sludge" should I expect surgery? The hospital told me that changing my diet could help to prolong it and ease some of the pain but thus far that hasn't done any good. I had a full 24 hours pain free and now the pain is back and since I hadn't eaten anything in about 14 hours I know that it isn't diet related. If any of you have any input it would be greatly appreciated.

This was from me I didn't realize that I wasn't logged in when I posted it. As an update, I went to my doctor on thursday and he scheduled me for a disida scan. From what he explained about it it sounds very similar to what i've been hearing about a hida scan. Does anyone here know for sure. I have to go to the hospital next friday morning. No food after midnight, then dye injected and a drug to make my gallbladder contract to see how well it is working. Has anyone here had a disida scan, and can give me input on just how uncomfortable it is going to be? I hear the dye really burns.
Thanks

I had my gallbadder out in april. Three months before & up to surgery I went through what seems like every test known to man. Sounds like your dr was talking about a hida scan. The dye does burn a little, but it's not that bad. However if you have a second injection-- the cck injection, that's a bit more uncomfortable, as it's makes your gallbladder contract...It can cause cramping, nausea etc...

Thanks. At least now I know not to worry to much about it. 3 days and counting. Maybe then I can get the ball rolling on relieving this constant pain and bloating.

Just An Update...

I went to the hospital and had the disida scan done on friday morning. They injected me with the radioactive dye, and then an hour later made me drink an entire can of room temperature un-flavored ensure(that was the worst part). The scan showed a very large gallbladder, from what I could tell it was about the size of a large lemon. No wonder i've been in so much pain. But when I called the dr's office friday afternoon they said it would be tuesday before they knew anything(even though the tech at the hospital told me the results would be available by that afternoon). So, here I am, still waiting, still hurting every day, and allmost out of pain meds. I'm anxious and scared. I'll let you know what I find out, when ever that happens to be...
