Plz Help Seizers Come Back After 10 Years Posted: 07-02-05 23:25pm
I use to have tons of seizers as an enfant
2-5. I had about 30 between that time.
And I have yet to have another seizer
until today. I was smoking weed with
friends when all of a sudden I blacked
out and when I came through my friends
were all like man ,man u ok. They told
me that I was shakin all over and my eyed
were rollin back in my head. I was also
very sweaty and a little confused and
scared. They said it lasted like 10
seconds. I know I was high but I
seriously blacked out. I wasnt trippin
out. Im pretty sure I had a seizer. Well
my question is, is it because of the weed?
Like I drink too but I wasnt at the time.
Could that of led to it?. Im juss really
confused and I dunno wut to do. Plz help.

It could be from the weed. Sounds like it
is time to get checked out by your gp and
have a neuro run some tests....

Hi
i'v got to say i'v never heard of weed
causing you to have a fit.I'v had them
before because of drink(not worth it) but
I quit smoking weed when I found out.
Your problem is,if you tell your doctor
that you was smoking weed when it happened
then they might just fob you off.Im no
expert but I dont think getting stoned can
cause a fit.
Good luck :)

Hi,
weed definately helps me. I have one
joint in the evening round 7, just before
supper. This seems to calm me down till
sufficiently so I can go to bed, sleep
like a log.
Since the day I started smoking i've been
grand-mal free. About 5 years now.
But I have to say that I don't believe it
works so well for everyone.
The problem is that you never know how
strong it is.
It would seem (than in my case) the
anti-convulsant properties of weed can be
counter productive when I have too much.
If I smoke a really strong joint I usually
just have one drag.
More than that and I seem to have trouble
controlling the shakes in my hands.
Naturally this makes me nervous so I tend
to never overdo it.
Hendrik.

Forgot to Mention. Posted: 12-04-05 06:10am
I once sew a guy keel over after having a
joint at a friends house party.
We chatted after he came to, he had no
history of epilepsy.
He simply passed out and woke up a minute
later feeling groggy.
He was not a regular smoker and he had a
mix of purple haze and bazooka, really
strong stuff. Not for the faint-hearted.
:-)
smoking weed on an empty stomach or in
conjunction with taking alcohol is usually
a bad idea. You either get the "greens"
feeling like you ate something really off,
or you want to sleep for 20 hours.
As for weed on its own, in my case it
works better than all the medications i've
tried in 27 years.
It was suggested to me by a canadian
neurologist, as a last resort before
cracking my skull open and seperating my
hemispheres.
For some epileptics smoking pot works
really well, but for some it doens't work
at all.
Do a google search "epilepsy cannabis" see
what you get...
As for discussing weed with your
neurologist; it all depends on where you
live, in canada and certain us states your
neurologist will be open and honest and
perhaps even prescribe cannabis.
Most other countries you're stuck with
manufactured (legal?) drugs.

Sorry about taking so long to come back to
this thread and read the responses, but I
moved and didnt have access to the
internet (and eventually when I did I
forgot about this thread) well anyways
heres an update, so far ive had 3
seizures, or passing outs(whatever it was)
but the most recent was like 2 days ago.
The night before I smoked like 5 bongs had
a great time , that night I didnt get much
sleep, in the morning at like 10 a freind
asks if I wanna come smoke some weed so I
wake my friend (he slept over) and we head
over. I only have 1 and a half bongs, I
was normal till about 10-15 min after. I
wasn't that high but I was getting really
dizzy, and one of my freinds who has seen
me seizure out before said man are you ok,
and im like man I feel like im gonna pass
out, I awoke on the floor with my freinds
calling my name, I dont think it should be
called passing out because I heard them
talkin but I couldnt understand at first,
then I soon started hearing them calling
my name and awoke 2 lie down for a bit.
Oh yea and the time it happend before this
I smoked like 8 bings with a big bowl, and
I finished one of my freinds chambers, and
I felt dizzy and fell head first onto his
bathroom floor, I awoke with everybody
freaking out, a head rush and I couldnt
see for about 5-10 min, and I was really
freaking out because I didnt know what
happend. After this I assumed it was from
smoking too much, but know I know it isnt
from that. I smoke weed offten if I have
some, im not really a heavy smoker ill
just have about 2-3 bongs just to hang
out, but the bowl is small (homemade) and
I dont usually pack it. So does anybody
have any idea what is happening, should I
quit smokin? Or what? Ps. I like smokin
marijuana but I like living better.
Please respond within the week before im
back with no internet access.

I Wouldn't Be Too Alarmed Posted: 07-31-06 03:06am
I've found it to be not uncommon among
heavy smokers. I can only give you my
hypothesis based on my own little
subjective study of this phenomenon.
The same thing you described happened to
me for the first time about a year ago.
I'm pretty sure it's not related to the
fact that the smoke itself is depriving
the brain of o2 because I don't smoke my
weed, I vaporize it.
The first time it occurred - not
coincidentally - happened around the same
time I realized there were much greater
benefits to holding the vapor in my lungs
than there was for smoke. From my own
experience as well as a number of
reputable studies that were done, it's
been shown that there is very little - if
any - benefit to holding your breath for
more than a couple of seconds after taking
a hit of smoke. I had been assuming the
same was true of the vaporizor, but I
didn't find the same diminishing returns
from holding the hit in my lungs for a
longer period of time.
It almost always would happen when I went
from leaning back (for more than 15
minutes or so) in my chair after
vaporizing a good bit of the sticky icky.
It would usually happen immediately after
several large hits and/or while I was
holding a large hit in my lungs. I often
would be on an empty stomach and I can
always feel it coming on for about 3-6
seconds before it occurs.
I would be aware I was about to black out
so i'd try to brace myself, then I would
immediately come-to on the floor with
whatever I tried to grab on the way down
on the floor with me. It would take a
few second for everything to become
coherent and then i'd be fine (often with
a few scrapes and bruises).
I started doing it on purpose in a
controlled environment to see if I could
figure out how to control it when I felt
it coming on. The answer is: yes. If
you can find a place to sit or lie down,
the feeling will almost always pass. If
it has to be the floor, so be it.
If you're standing up, no matter how
strong your will, when this happens you
are going to end up on the floor no matter
what you grab.
My wife saw this whole process take place
and basically, it looked like I was having
a seizure while standing up (trying to
keep my blalance). But I lost motor
control eventually and just buckled, then
jumped right back up as if everything was
okay (as I tried to make sense of what
happened).
So my hypothesis is this:
obviously the blackout happens because the
brain is being deprived of oxygen when I
stand quickly from a reclining position
while holding my breath (or perhaps out of
breath to some extent). The contribution
of the marijuana is not so much in that
the smoke is depriving you of needed o2,
but the process of smoking itself is.
The headrushes would be normal for many
people with low or borderline low
blood-pressure but I think they're clearly
compounded by the reaction of thc or some
other cannaboid with your brain.
Obviously I have no clue what that may be.
What I learned from my ill conceived
autoexperimentation is that under the
right circumstances I (and maybe you) can
induce a very brief seizure like state
that could best be described as 5 seconds
of what it would be like to
simultaneously inhale ketamine and nitrous
oxide.
More imporantly, I learned that these
headrushes - while enjoyable on a boring
day - are also very avoidable.
