My baby just had her appendix removed.
She's 2 yrs old and spent 7 days in the
hospital because her fever was still high.
(her appendix ruptured) anyway, she's
still getting fever...And the area where
the incision is is a little red. Is this
normal? She still has no appetite and
will not play or interact with other
children/adults except me...Should I be
worried? She goes for her post op follow
up on thursday (her surgery was june 23rd
and we got out of the hosp. On june 30th)
thank you!! Concerned mommy of a 2 yr old

3 Yr Old W/appendicitis Posted: 10-15-05 14:43pm
I am glad to hear there is another mommy
that was in my shoes. My daughter had
what seemed to be the stomach flu for 6
days. At her first visit in the er they
gave her a bag of iv fluid since she
hadn't urinated for 12 hours and sent her
home w/o taking any tests. Two days
later she was still sick and not urinating
too often so I took her to her
pediatrician. Her tongue was
green.....The doctor had no clue and said
take her back to the er. The pa on call
ordered blood tests and a ct scan and
thought it was her appendix even though
others felt she was too young. After not
finding anything, they admitted her and
the next day did another ct scan that
showed an inflammed appendix. It was
taken out that afternoon. Two days later
she was able to come home....Even though
it was an open appendectomy. Days later
she wasn't doing better, no appetite or
energy, but the surgeon said she was fine
even though she was screaming of stomach
pain in his office. They ignored her low
grade fever. Eight days post surgery I
took her to the er. They were upset and
felt she only had a sore throat. After
encouraging them to do a blood test they
found her white blood count to be higher
than it should for a child. A ct scan
showed she had an abscess that had formed
on the left side of her abdomen. She was
immediately hospitalized and the next day
sent by ambulance to a children's hospital
2 hrs away. They put her on two
different antibotics and she stayed there
for 5 days. They installed a picc line
into her arm and she got both antibiotics
at home for another 10 days, four times a
day. We are thankful that we fought so
hard for her. The surgeon at the
children's hospital said her body was days
from shutting down. She is back to her
normal adventurous self and we can't be
happier!!!
