Antibiotics And Birth Control
Posted: 11-17-03 14:38pm

I am scheduled to have my wisdom teeth taken out on friday. There is a chance i'll be prescribed antibiotics (not sure what kind) to help with pain after the surgery.

I'm currently taking nordette and this week i'm taking the placebo pills. My question is will taking antibiotics during the placebo week effect my birth control schedule (ie since i'm not taking active pills there's nothing for the antibiotics to react with an lessen the effects of) assuming that I stop taking antibiotics prior to starting my new pack of pills on sunday? How long are antibiotics in your system and able to effect birth control pills?

Thanks for any answers!

The most common interfere with birth control. A few kinds do not. You might want to mention your concerns to the dentist or doctor who is prescribing the antibiotics.

Im not sure but whenever I have had to take birth control pills and antibiotics together I always ask my gp and he has always said im unprotected for one whole cycle and that he tells me makes sure that the anitbiotics have left the system and the bc has had a chance to go back to working effectively but I never stop taking bc the whole time im on antibiotics

from some one who cant wait to have a jelly bean all of their own
