Just Wondering Whether I'm Allowed...??? Posted: 07-06-05 05:23am
Hi, i'm 3 months pregnant and was
wondering something... This may sound
like a silly question but I heard when
pregnant you shouldn't dye your hair. I
only recently found out about my pregnancy
and have been to a hair appointment and
was wondering if this can hurt him/her or
it is safe...? Does any1 have any
thoughts???

You'll get millions of different opinions
on this one.
I've heard both sides- I heard the
chemicals in hair dye can be absorbed into
the body through your skin if they are in
contact with the scalp, and the effects of
these chemicals on a fetus are unknown and
possibly harmfull.
I've also heard that it's completely
harmless, and an old wives tail. However
hormones can effect the result of the dye
job (or perm for that matter)
i would go for the middle of the road
option and maybe do something like
highlights, (or low lights)-where the dye
doesn't actually make contact with your
scalp anyway. If it's expensive at the
hairdresser's there are do-it-yourself
ones which come with the little cap to
pull the hair through and everything. You
just need a patient and gentle friend to
help you pull the hair through the holes.
Pay attention to the directions.
For the record, I dyed my hair just before
I found out I was pregnant, with a dye
full of god knows what, and it sat on my
scalp for the whole 1/2 an hour or
whatever. I'm 23 weeks now, and my
ultrasound showed normal amount of legs,
arms and heads, so it would seem no harm
done.
I'll let you know if the child turns out
to be a psychopath or someting.

I dyed my hair a few times from the second
tri on. My doc said it was fine. Yes
the dye might not take as well or it might
work better. They say not to dye your
hair the first tri as their brain is
developping. My son is 15 days old and
in perfect condition!

I would just suggest using semi-permanet (
or however you spell it ) hair dye. It's
healther for your hair and doesn't contain
as many harsh chemicals in it

Thank you every1 for your responses... A
lot of people have told me its dangerous
and a lot haven't... I just wasn't sure
and got myself worried.
I might wait until my 2nd trimester and
use a semi-perm.. Next time...
Thanks again!!!
