Hpv Lasts Forever? I Didn't Know... Posted: 07-07-05 05:47am
Omg! I got genital warts from my
ex-husband more than 25 years ago and we
both had them frozen off. We thought
that was it. Over. Done. Now I read
here that it never goes away. I had no
idea. I've never had any more since
then. Now I have to deal with hpv on top
of the hsv2 I got from my current husband
a couple of years ago. My gyne didn't
tell us we would have it forever! I
never mentioned it to anyone, except my
current husband, just in passing
conversation because I thought it was
gone. Should I be watching for any other
symptoms?
My current husband has some kind of warts
on his inner thighs that look like hpv and
his dermetologist gave him some cream to
'burn' them off (which didn't work very
well), but, didn't say they were
contagious...Should I worry? I don't
have any, but, he still has alot.

After reading the medical info on hpv, I
remember the cream the dermatologist gave
my current husband was aldara. I said it
was to "burn them off" in
error...Actually, he said the cream
"burned" alot and he didn't like using it.
It was supposed to make the warts
diminish in size and hopefully make them
go away. They seemed to have gotten a
little smaller, but, my husband was
discouraged because of the "burning" and
very slow recovery and stopped using the
cream. He said something about the doctor
wanting to freeze them off with a lazer,
but, he was afraid of that and I don't
think he did it. He still has alot of
them on both thighs near his groin area.
Is this contagious?

I also just found out I have hpv. I
discovered it when a pap test came back
abnormal. I went in for a follow-up
colposcopy and they found 2 warts on my
cervix. They biopsied them and am
waiting for the results. I'm nervous
because I know that hpv is linked to
cervical cancer. Luckily, I go to the
doctor every year and if it's anything, I
caught it early. I just sucks knowing
that we are stuck with this virus for
life. Through a lot of research, I found
that stress plays a big part in outbreaks.
Another interesting fact, hpv is not
always sexually transmitted. I read that
20% of virgin college students have some
strain of hpv. Because warts on the body
can have a papilloma virus in them. I'm
just nervous about my results. Has
anyone else gone through this?

I also had a wart 22 years ago and thought
it was over. My boyfriend of 2-1/2
years just got some genital warts and I
looked into the situation. Well come to
find out anyone could have this virus from
the first time they had sex and not know
it. Now he has warts and I have
none. You cannot blame your partner or
yourself. Also like you I have herpes
also which was contacted 22 years ago.
The doctor gave my boyfriend the aldara
cream also. We are not crazy about it
but in our current situation we have to
use it. From what I read all warts are
contagious so I would be carefull with the
warts he has. But don't let it destroy
you. Just get them treated and go on
with your life. I not sure if when you
said the doctor did not tell you that you
would have it forever was herpes or warts.
The warts are not serious but need to be
treated. As far the herpes you do need
to look for signs as not to spread it. I
know because I can tell right before an
outbreak. The area gets sore and itchy.
I hardly every outbread but do avoid sex
if I feel like an outbreak of herpes is
coming on. As far as the warts you do
not feel these and again I never had a
problem with them since 22 years ago but
since my boyfriend has them I will have to
get checked in 3 months to make sure I
don't get any.

the results of the biopsy so I guess they
were neg. I did get a letter in the mail
about atypical squamos cells (sp)? I
dunno wut the hell that is tho.. N.E one

Did u kno about 75% of the sexually active
pop. Has hpv?? Its jus inactive. I
found mine wen I got preg. B.C my immune
system was weaker then. Alot of ppl have

I am a 22 male and I have HPV. It is a
unique disease in that it acts more like a
fungus then a virus, but it is a virus.
There are over a hundred strains of the
virus. Out of these, about 30-40 are
STD's in that they are sexually
transmitted. Approximately 20 million
people are currently infected with HPV. At
least 50 percent of sexually active men
and women acquire genital HPV infection at
some point in their lives. By age 50, at
least 80 percent of women will have
acquired genital HPV infection. About 6.2
million Americans get a new genital HPV
infection each year. Strains 6, 11, may
cause genital warts and there are 13
so-called "high-risk" sexually transmitted
HPVs, including types 16, 18, 31, 33, 35,
39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, and 68 —
different from the ones that cause warts.
All in all, HPV is not the end of the
world nor is it the worst STD ever. In
fact if HPV is all that you have then
consider yourself lucky. New studies
indicate that it either goes away on its
own, or more than likely it goes dormant.
As far as to if it is contagious at that
point, there are mixed reviews, but many
believe that the carrier becomes less
contagious. I hope this helps.

I just found out that I have HPV, and
possibly cervical cancer. Being a mother
of 4 kids and married for 25 years, I was
kinda shocked to hear that I had been
carrying this around dormant for sooo long
with no symptoms what so ever, until
recently. Is this even possible? I would
have thought that something would have
shown up in a blood test when I had my
babies....or am blind to the obvious?

If HPV doesn't show up in your yearly pap
smear examination is everything ok?

Ask Dr. Nikola Posted: 04-19-08 19:57pm
on eHealth Forum. Lots of very valid
questions here on this subject.
I know that you can have a pap smear and
unless your doctor orders that they check
for HPV, they may not do so when the
pathology is done.
I too have HPV with the high risk types.
My first test was done at my request
because I had come down with a really bad
vaginal infection, found out my former BF
had multiple partners, just got sick.
Results came back HPV.
That was a year ago. In February, 2008, I
was again tested by my GYN and the results
came back normal. He said that if I can
have three more testings, every six months
and it comes back within normal range, I
will have the HPV in dormancy. However,
HPV is forever and as others on this Forum
have told me, it can flare up again
especially when under a lot of stress.
Now, I have an area on my thigh which
appears to be a genital wart. It is in
the shape of a cauliflower, about 1/4 inch
in diameter, flesh colored, but lighter
than my skin. bumpy. My doctor is going
to see it on Monday. But, that is what it
is.
Research I have done says a genital wart
can take 6 to 8 months to show up. About
right. Last time I was ever with that
guy. What a parting gift.
He still says he doesn't have anything.
Guess he was able to battle off the HPV.
