Some people say that it is harmful and others don't. I was told that it was bad to breathe in the fumes and that the chemicals can soak in through your scalp. A lot of women still do it though. I would ask your doctor what he or she thinks.

I have searched so many websites looking for an answer. I have a talked to a few doctors as well.

Its best to do it in your second trimester. They have done studies and its come back that nothing bad has happened to your baby. The fumes is what you have to watch out for. Honeslty. If you plan on bleaching your hair, make sure the room is very well open and maybe even turn a fan on. It goes the same for colors too. I'm the type of person that has been dying my hair since I was in about 5th grade ; ).

I'd say its okay, but if you really wana be sure get a few doctors opinions.

I think it is ok to dye your hair! When one of my friends was pregnant she got her hair done how she normally did like every 2-2 1/2 months and her doctor said it was fine and her baby is fine! Its really just depending on what you think is best! But I dont think its harmful!

I spoke with my hair dresser on this one 2 days ago.. She said you shouldn't do a full head bleach but it's ok to do highlights as you don't go all the way to your scalp with highlights, if you are going to dye your hair to use an amonia free or semi permanant. It's all about the amonia on this one.

Go Ahead
Please read the following - most medical sites & doctors go by the teratology information.

(?) is it safe for me to continue dyeing my hair while pregnant? I have heard conflicting information.

Yes. In years past, doctors often recommended that pregnant women avoid dyeing their hair. But i'm pleased to tell you that most products used today to achieve temporary, semi-permanent and permanent hair color are considered safe for use by pregnant women. The organization of teratology information services, which studies substances that can cause birth defects, states, "in animal studies, at doses 100 times higher than what would normally be used in human application, no significant changes were seen in fetal development." but keep in mind that pregnancy hormones may change the texture of your hair, causing it to respond differently to coloring ingredients. So while it may be perfectly safe to dye your hair, you may not get the precise color you've come to expect.
