Took Pill Before Period - Concerned!!! Posted: 07-10-05 10:52am
Hi!
I'm 23 years old and have been on the pill
since I was about 16. I took ortho cyclen
and then alesse, and then yasmin for the
past year and a half or so. I've liked
yasmin the best, it seems to be the only
one that didn't make me gain any weight at
all.
My boyfriend went away for a month and a
half, and for some stupid reason I decided
to take a short break from my pills. I
got my period like right after he left
(about the 2nd of june) and then figured
i'd have a month to get my period, start
the pill, and be on it for a week (yasmin
says you only need to be on it 7 days to
be protected) and then he'd be back. I
don't know why I didn't consider the fact
that I may not get my period when I was
supposed to due to going off the
pill.....And of course, that's what
happened.
I know you're supposed to wait until you
get your period to start the pills, but I
really wanted to be on them already when
he got back, so I started anyway (on july
4). Ever since i've felt really
strange....A little dizzy, some headaches,
a little sluggish and very out if it, some
blurry vision even. I've never
experienced anything like this with yasmin
or any other pill before, so I don't know
what the deal is. There is no chance i'm
pregnant, so that's not an issue.
I'm just wondering if anyone knows if
there's anything wrong with taking the
pill before you get your period (i
probably would have gotten it in the next
week or two, i'm guessing). Is it going
to be less effective? Is it in any way
dangerous?
Btw: i'm also on adderall for add, but I
was on that before too so I don't think
that's related.
Any replies/opinions/facts/whatever would
be greatly appreciated!!
Thank you!!!

Well I would have to say that since all
the packages say to take it after your
period that would definately be the cause
of your feeling out of it. I've never
been on yasmin but I would check into the
side effects again and would definately
check in with your doctor if these
feelings don't go away. I wouldn't say it
is dangerous to take it then but just to
be safe--check with your doc

Last month, I accidentally missed a pill,
and had my period early. Anyway, it
caused me to be a week early. After
talking to my doctor, they said it would
be ok to start my new pack of pills the
week I would have if my period would have
been normal. So, I would say you are ok.
I am on ortho tricyclen though.
Regardless, it should be fine. My doctor
wasn't concerned, he did however say that
it is important to use a barrier for back
up protection during this month since my
body is going to be adjusting itself back
to normal. If you feel really out of
whack though, you are the only one who
knows what is normal for your body and you
may want to check with the doc for peace
of mind. :)
