I have been dealing with the symptoms of
appendicitis for 24 hours now, just
wondering if the symptoms (mostly pain)
vary in serverity. It seems to be severe
at certain times of the day but always a
constant pain. Any more help would be
greatly appreciated. I've been reading
the internet for any help but just needed
that question answered.
Thanks.

I just had a lap appendectomy monday. I
was having sharp shooting pains in my
right side by my hip bone for about a
week. They came more often and got more
intense so I went to the er. The Dr.
Said that he did not think it was my
appendix because I did not have any other
symptoms he thought that maybe it was a
cyst on my ovary. He did a cbc and a
urine test and if those came back fine
then he would do an ultrasound to check
for a cyst. My white blood count came
back elevated so he decided to do a ct
scan. I have to drink this white yucky
stuff to line my stomach and intestines.
Waited about 1 1/2 hours and they had me
drink more of the barium yucky stuff and
put dye in my iv. After being in the
hospital for 8 hours I found out that I
had feces stuck in my intestines.. Nice
huh? He called a surgeon and the surgeon
said that it was not an emergency and for
me to call his office monday to make an
appointment. I had to wait over the
weekend and made an appointment. I went
and the surgeon said it was best to remove
my appendix. I had surgery 1 week later.
While in there he found a cyst on my ovary
and signs that my appendix was inflamed
before this episode. Also that my
appendix was laying the worst way and can
be mistaken for back pain. Which I
already have chronic back pain from a
herniated disc. So most likely I have
been having problems before and did not
notice because of chronic back pain. I
did not have any of the other appendicitis
symptoms!
My surgery went well and I was up out of
my bed 2 hours after being taken to my
room. Since my surgery was at 5pm I had
to stay overnight. But was not too bad.
I have 3 small incisions. The 1st couple
of days where the worst trying to get up
in down and could not roll over in bed
without waking up. They put gas in my
belly to make more room for the surgeon,
which traveled up under my ribs and
shoulder, kinda hard to breath for a bit
until I layed down and it would move back
to my tummy. The gas absorbed in a couple
of days. Its been 4 days now and I still
have muscle pain but other than that I am
doing very well. I have to go back to the
Dr. Thursday for a check-up.
