Hi I am 31 years old. Just did my 11
weeks ultrasound and my fetus appeared to
have a think fluid (nuchal translucent)
space near the back/neck. Measured 4.1mm
vs. The average of 3.5mm which indicated
increased risk of abnormalities. I am
very concerned as this is my first
pregnancy and doc has advised me to go for
triple test when I am 15 weeks pregnancy
and then go for amnio test. I am scared
and seek advice whether there is high
possibility of my baby not being normal.
Please help... Anyone

Hi! Posted: 07-14-05 01:13am
A friend of mine went through what is
happening to you, not to say this is what
all should do.. But she and her b.F at
the time.. Chose to terminate, due to the
fact that the nuchal translucent was thick
as well. Their doc told them it was a
hight chance that the baby would either
have down syndrome or be a
dwarf..(dwarf(ism) ) runs in her family...
(two blood aunts are dwarfs and one of her
three children was born with it as well!)
so like I said she and her b.F chose to
terminate before it even came down to the
amino, and such.. She was close to 14
weeks at that point, but felt that it was
a wiser choice having seen all the health
and medical problems her cousin and aunts
went through...
She later went on to carry a perfectly
healthy baby boy.. No problems..
So maybe its just the luck of the draw..
I wish you and your hunny the best of
luck and pray that everything is be
fine..
