Night Shift/insanity
Posted: 07-14-05 11:55am

Hi everyone,

just recently I started working the night shift full time from 10pm to 6pm.I also go to college full time.I feel like I am going to go crazy sometimes, probably because I am over tired and stressed. Can you lose you mind from too much stress and tiredness?

I have auditory hullicinations sometimes.Visual hillucinations are rare though they do happen to me if I haven't slept for a few days, which happens quite often when I have some big assignment at school.

Basically I don't know what to do, I am at a crossroads. The only way I can finish college is if I have money to pay for it and the only way I have enough money is if I work full time. But in the process I am really destroying my health and sanity. Perhaps I should go to school part time and work full or part time so I have more time to sleep?

But even when I do try to sleep it is almost impossible because I am thinking about essays and quizes all night.

I should also mention I have always had insomnia since I was young, it has always been hard for me to relax before bed and I wake up alot during the night when I am sleeping.

Anyone that has any suggestions on how I can handle my life better would help. Thanks

Well, first I would like to give you kudos for your hard work! Its great that you have dedicated yourself to school, it will really pay off later in life. The only help that I can think of for you is this supplement call melatonin. Its a natural hormone found in the body that promotes sleep. Basically what it does is relax you, and ive found that it helps me alot b/c before bed my mind is going a million miles an hour and it takes me a couple hours to fall asleep. But this really helps.
And if I were you id prolly cut down a little on one or the other. So much lack of sleep cant be too good on your grades. ^u^
i hope this was helpful!

Thanks orenji_koneko88, that was very helpful and im glad you recommended the melatonin. I have been looking into that in fact and it sounds like it might help. I will probably cut down on work also, because I want to keep my grades up. Anyway thanks for replying and wish me luck on talking with my boss about cutting down on my work hours.
