Green Bay Packers Help Out With Breast Cancer Posted: 07-15-05 14:05pm
in an
outstanding response to the packers breast
cancer cap program, supporters of the
campaign have exhausted the initial supply
of hats. The empty shelves at the packers
pro shop will be only temporary, though,
as a second shipment is due in thursday.
The joint campaign of the packers and
american family insurance features a pink
baseball-styled cap featuring the team’s
‘g’ on the front, with an american
family insurance logo and breast cancer
pink ribbon on the side. Money raised
from the program will be distributed to
three state-wide breast cancer charities
focusing on prevention, treatment and
research.
“we’re delighted that so many people
have shown their support for the
program,” said packers president bob
harlan. “the response has been
phenomenal. We’re excited to see such
great reaction to the effort and
anticipate more people getting
involved.”
an initial supply of 20,000 caps was on
hand for the july 7 kickoff of the
program. Between an allotment for
american family insurance and its agents,
plus sales in the pro shop, via telephone
and on the internet, all were gone by
monday evening.
“it’s been a great experience for
everyone involved at the pro shop,” said
kate hogan, the packers’ director of
retail operations. “our staff has been
touched and inspired by the many, many
people who have come in to purchase hats
and share their stories about why
they’re buying them. We look forward to
seeing more people get behind the effort.
“for people who want to purchase caps in
person, we’ll have our next shipment in
stock on thursday. Until then, we’ll
continue to take phone and web site
orders. We’ve already placed an order
for additional hats, too.”
I just thought this post would provide
hope that over 20,000 baseball caps were
sold in four days. $5 from each hat will
go to charity. So if I did my math right,
that is $100,000 in under a week. Think
how many people will buy more when they
come back in stock?
Another amazing thing about this is that
green bay is the nfl's smallest city with
102,313 people. Just think if they played
in a big city like chicago, nyc, or la?
Maybe those teams shuold do the same.
Anyway, I just thought this might make
some people feel better knowing this.
