Looking For Help With Bulimia, Please Help Posted: 07-18-05 07:36am
All, I need your help desperately. My
girlfriend is a bulimic and I don't know
what to do. Where should I go to for
help? She has admitted it to me in the
past, but only because I caught her in the
middle of it. I finally got her to accept
getting help, but I kept looking and
couldn't find any help. In the past few
months, she swears to not have done it,
but I have my doubts. Where can I go to
find her help? What kind of doctors help
with this issue? Also, do any of them
accept insurance? I'm looking for someone
in northern new jersey. Please help!
Thank you.

I'd say shes definatly still got a
problem. For every rat you see there's a
hundred you dont see, and its the same
with purging, you catch her once and i'll
be certain she'll do it again. I dont
know med services in the us, i'm
austrlian. Just let her know you care and
love her and I hope all goes well! :)

Well please go easy on her if you're still
together. I myself and still recovering
from e.Ds. I went into treatment when I
was 16 and it was hell, I was bulimic with
anorexic freatures. If you need anything
please let me know. I'll you both out.
Lots of love

Hey, your girlfriend needs psychiatric
help, so a shrink or a councellor should
do the trick. Also she'll need to see a
doctor about the health risks with
throwing up and starvation. You might
want to contact your lolac eating disorder
foundation, i'm sure you'll find one.
They'll point you in the right direction,
whether she needs inpatient care, out
patient care, a shrink, support
groups...Its worth looking into all these
options! I really hope it all goes well
for you and an her, and oyu make it
through this. If your relationship
survives I reckon its meant to be, because
she might hate you for a while. An eating
disorder consumes so much of your life, if
anyone takes it away from you you feel
violated to begin with. She'll come
around though! If she gets better!

I went through that the day I caught her
purging. She said she hated me and wanted
to break up and be left alone. Let me
tell you, that's very tough on someone.
Even though I understand that she may have
felt violated, these are not the kinds of
things I want to hear either. However, I
got through that and got her to
reluctantly agree to get help if I were to
go along with her. Several months past,
as I was trying to find someone that would
take her health insurance (she doesn't
want her mother to know), but I couldn't
really find anyone, and now she swears to
me that she hasn't done it since once
after I caught her. Just this week it hit
me that she's lying again (i know, i'm
gullible and trusting). I need to find
her help. I will not stand by and watch
her slowly kill herself.
I will search for a psychiatrist, and also
make sure she schedules appointments for a
dentist and regular physician. Thank you
guys for all your help. Please feel free
to continue to contribute. Thanks!

Are You Sure She's Bulimic? Posted: 07-21-05 07:50am
You might be thinking silly question,
right? Well not really cos what alot of
people dont understand is that bulimia is
the act of binging in excess, sometimes
20, 000 calories in a few hours and then
throwing up or obsessivly excersising to
get rid of calories. Anorexia is starving
ones self, obsessed with calories,
excersising obsessivly, scared of food.
What you mya find is that she's ednos
(eating disorder no otherwise specified)
where traits of both anorexia and bulimia
live side by side. I'm abit of both, I
never binge but sometimes I do throw up
when I over eat on normal meals or over my
alowed calories for the day. I'm just
asking because I here the treatments
different for both and it will help you
understand her more if you understand the
disease. Xoxo
