Depression
diabetes
brain cancer
stomach cancer
gastric ulcers
anorexia
gallbladder problems
stds (even before I ever had sex)
malignant melanoma (which one of my crazy doctors convinced me I had, so that was more him than me!)
ibs
infertility!
ovarian cysts
sciatica
ruptured spleen (which was just a week ago and it was swollen because I had an infection)

i have changed a lot…most of these “self diagnoses” took place a few years ago in high school. The only anxiety I have now is a fear of vomiting which is pretty common so i’ve read. I'm a .Radiology major now so educating myself on the human body has really helped me move past this! It has also made me more aware of things in the body too to help maybe explain things...It's bitter sweet I guess!!

Wow, this is totally where i'm at in my life right now. I'm currently obsessed with huntington's disease. My leg aches. Isn't that a sign of oncoming huntingtons? I have muscle twitches. I'm forgetful and absent-minded. I go to google and wrongdiagnosis and webmd and all that ...

I called my mom once and was like, "mom!! Has anyone in the family ever had huntington's disease!?!" and she basically laughed at the question. Which, I appreciate the ridiculousness of it now, but damn if it wasn't the most horrifying thing at the time I was asking it ... To tell the truth, i'm not completely convinced i'm not dying of huntington's disease.

Before that, anyuerism, heart attack and heart failure, kidney failure, appedicitis multiple times ... I'm sure there were others that I can't recall, which is, of course, a sign of my oncoming brain-wasting illness.

I'm 23 and new here. I hope you all dont mind my venting.

I'm a writer by trade, and, actually, i'm thinking fairly seriously of writing a story about wrestling with this anxiety stuff ... This is just awful, it really is ...

I am so glad I am not alone in this!

In the past few years, I think I have:

hiv/aids
cancer (well, I did have melanoma but has high cure rate)
dvt/embolism
heart disease (arrythmia)
sepsis
meningitis

but if we take a look at the whole picture, the odds of me dying is very slim - only 177 out of 100,000 at my age and the leading cause is accidents and hiv. Cancer and heart disease come after that and they're extremely rare.

Check up death statistics:

http://www.Disas tercenter.Com/cdc/111riske.Html

it's clear: you have very little to worry when you're a young adult and you should spend time more about preventing accidents and being healthy than worrying about health problems.

I have been tested many times and I was never found anything wrong with it. I did have uti that went away with simple antibiotics and high consumption of cranberry/blueberry.

I did have several premature heart beats but everything I read about them, they're "benign in absense of heart disease." but it sure sucks.

The shooting aches are clearly caused by my excessive anxiety. I hope so!

I think i've been health-concious all my life, possibly a hypochondriac, but the most recent from the past couple of years (i'm 20):

breast cancer at 18
aneurysm (several times)
heart attack
stroke
deep vein thrombosis
pulmonary embolism
appendicitis
meningitis
sciatica
herniated disc
short qt interval (after seeing it on the news)

i had no anxiety for a few months, but now it's back with fear of a fatal heart condition due to all the palpitations i've been having lately.

Social Anxiety
Posted: 08-04-06 07:14am

Many times people tend to get extremely shy, fearful or overtly self conscious, while interacting in a variety of social situations. These symptoms are so common in their daily life, which they tend to develop severe inferiority complex as a result of many anxious situations. The scenarios are so obvious: people facing interviews, a boy proposing his fist date to his girl friend...

Atlast I am not alone!!!!!!! I constantly feel like I am dying of some sort of disease. I can have just been to the doctor and gotten checked for my annual womanly exam and even when test results come back and are negative I still think I have something such as cervical or ovarian cancer, aids, or an std. Other things I have freaked out about having......hmmm lets see here:

Throat cancer
Kidney failure
Epilepsy
Blood clot in leg and brain
Heart condition

the list goes on and on..........soo glad I am not alone anymore. I think the hard part is soo many conditions now adays have many alike symptoms which leads you to think its something its not. Also yes web MD really freaks you out and gets you thinkin your dyin!!!!!

Ain't that the truth. WebMD symptom checker is the devil!

Right now I'm obsessed about aortic aneurysms because I have a very strong pulse I can feel in my stomach and it freaks me out. Lately it's all about stomach problems. My diet hasn't changed but I'm feeling bloated and just plain "blah" around that area and the anxiety just makes it worse so I'm constantly trying to talk myself out of the belief that it's an aortic aneurysm...and failing.

Other "diseases" I've convinced myself I've had at one time or another include:
Brain tumor
Brain aneurysm
MS
Stomach ulcers
Numerous types of cancer

I was about to post and ask, how many of those who have posted in this thread could have said the same 'before' the internet?

Self diagnosing from the internet is an ever growing problem for doctors, I really don't envy them. Unfortunately, if a doctor thinks for one second that's what you've been doing, you may as well leave at that point! I made the mistake of quoting Google in my GP office once...

I used to do the same, Google and Google looking desperately for an answer. And if I found an answer I didn't like, I'd carry on looking for a better one(!). The internet provides you with mounds of information right at your fingertips, some of it fact, some of it claptrap. It's so easy. When you're fed up of having no life and your GP doesn't seem to be listeninng, you grow increasingly inpatient, and anything seems worth considering. It also makes you feel 100 times worse when your doctor tells you there's 'nothing wrong' and you feel the need to take matters into your own hands. It's a combination of a lot of factors that makes Google a shining beacon of hope (and a hunny pot for hypochondriacs).

Many people Google health information, it doesn't make you a hypochondriac Wink (at least that's what I keep telling myself). Though self diagnosing can be very dangerous, so a little common sense can go a long way.
