Heart Palpitations In 21 Year Old Female Posted: 07-19-05 13:25pm
I'm a 21 year old female and have been
having heart palpitations for the past 6
months or so, sometimes accompanied by
chest tightness/aches or lightheadedness.
I don't smoke or drink. As a long
distance runner, I also run about 50 miles
a week (to be soon increased as I am
training for a marathon), but usually my
palpitations arise when i'm at rest.
Also, I have been on birth control for
several years and know that there exists
side effects that can include heart attack
and stroke.
I have noticed that the palpitations
come and go. For example, i'll feel them
several times a minute for two straight
weeks, then the next week I don't feel
them nearly as much. I'm worried sick
that i'm just going to drop dead from a
heart attack or something.
I've been to the md, who ran an ekg
(of course, the palpitations didn't occur
when the test was run). He also
prescribed me something that he described
as similar to a high dose of naproxem
sodium. This did not seem to help.
Does anyone have any suggestions or
similar experiences?

Hi there! Have you thought about
getting off of the b/c pill and trying
something else as I am sure that you know
that there are other forms of b/c such as
the diafram(sp) and other things, talk to
your dr and you can always get a second
opinion.

Im 33 and have had heart palpitations for
past 10 yrs. I know how you feel don't
worry your not going to drop dead thats
how I always felt. But make an
appointment with a cardiologist and get a
cardiac workup so you will be reassured
that youre not having a heart attack.
Unfortunately these doctors will always
say don't worry its anxiety but they don't
feel the way we do so its hard to
understand. Good luck

Palpatations Posted: 09-05-05 18:17pm
I too have had palpatations for a couple
of years. It could be months without
having any and them all of a sudden I get
them. I am a long distance runner and
heavily into weight training. I have
pushed my heart to the limit, so I
consider them a nusiance more that
anything else. I do not get shortness of
breath, chest pain or dizziness. My pc
think it is related to anxiety so as the 3
cardiolologists that I visited. When you
experience them, take deep breaths and try
not to focus on them. If you get
anxious, you will be in tuned with your
heartbeat and that will drive you nuts.
Limit caffine, chocolate and alcohol might
help a bit. There is nothing wrong
(pending you got a total cardiovascular
check-up). I always tell myself, it is
all mental not physical.
