Hi

i'm writing my disertation on how barbie and the media effect our ego.

A large part of my dissertation is concerning cosmetic surgery.

I would be very grateful if you could comment on whether barbie has had any influnce over possible or previous operations.

Also please could you tell me in one word the biggest influence you can think of for having surgery.

Thank you in advance

Wow! Thats a gr8 idea 4 ur dissertation! When u think barbie,u think 'perfect'-blonde hair, small feet, beautiful face, long slim legs etc & because barbie is the best selling girls toy around the globe, she will have a major impact & I believe that as girls get older, they start to compare themselves 2 such role models.I suppose people in the spotlight such as barbie! Even influence ppl like britney spears (knee surgery? Yeah right,we all know u had a boob job!) who want 2 achieve this level of perfection. In one word though,id have 2 say the greatest influence 4 plastic surgery has to be: society.
I am considereing plastic surgery due to being bullied which has led to psychological issues 4 me.Some people have it 4 vanity, others 4 medical reasons, others due 2 pressure from partner etc. And others, like me 4 psychological reasons.
I hope I helped u in some, small way. Please pm me & let me know how ur getting on with-i'd be really interested 2 know!

I am sure barbie has affected peoples decisions to have plastic surgery and such. But it is mainly society. I have to agree with the other response in that aspect. Look at the models, actresses, singers, etc. The majority of them are bean poles. And the ones who aren't have the computer touch-up's done on their photos so that we think that they are perfect. It is very unrealistic, as is barbie.

I feel barbie will have a great impact on children and whether they keep those beliefs as they grow older is not for sure. It seems that as children playing with barbie and seeing all her cool clothes and big houses and her perfection, would open a child's mind to wonderful imagination of his/her own future. As teens, we start having an impact from people like brittney spears or jessica simpson. Then as adults, we have an impact from people like cameron diaz or some other hot hollywood star. My daughter plays with barbie and I highly doubt she will look to barbie when she is 15 or 16 and say I want to look like her. At least I hope not!!! Smile
