Inactive Pills Safe?
Posted: 07-20-05 08:03am

Hi everyone. I realize this may be a stupid question but I have to know anyway. Is there an increased chance of becoming pregnant when you have sex during the inactive week with the pill? Didn't use a condom but withdrawl was used. Still a little worried though. Thanks!

You're covered just as much as you were during the active pills. You should be fine.

During the inactive pill week you should get your period, which means you've ovulated, to my knowledge. Isn't that what causes you to have your period? The lining of your uterus slowly builds up over the month; you ovulate, and then your body realises there isn't going to be a baby, so it gets rid if the lining in a cycle usually around 28 days long.

I would take that to mean that you are not safe during the "placebo" or "sugar pill" week... But I think we should all probably check with a doctor on this one. I know I don't have unprotected sex before my period.

Although, the pill stops you from ovulating. That is, if you take it just as you are supposed to. So if you never ovulated, you're perfectly safe to have sex right before, or during your period.

The pill stops you from ovulating & when you take the inactive pills you have a withdrawal bleed - you still don't ovulate during that week. If taken correctly there really isn't a chance for pregnancy the week before or during your period week because ovulation is suppressed. So technically you're safe to have sex any day of the month.
