Depo Provera: Bleeding For Two Weeks... Posted: 07-21-05 13:19pm
Hi, i've been on depo provera for about 5
years.
I usually have no period at all, or light
spotting for a few days.
But now, I am bleeding for two weeks. It
never happened before.
Is this something I should talk to a
doctor, or just a common side effect?
Thanks!

Hi... I was on depo for over 6 years, and
I never bled at all, I heard that b/c all
women react to the stuff differently some
bleed for the whole time, and some don't
bleed at all, but from what I heard you
can usually tell within the first few
days, considering that you said that you
have been on it for 5 years, I would
deffinatly talk to the doctor asap, you
just never know...
Keep me posted.

Hi
i have a friend who was on depo and she
would have her period for sometimes weeks
at a time, once it was 6 weeks long, and
then wouldn't have it again for a few
weeks to a month. The doctors told her
this was normal and after about 6 months
everything worked itself out.
Good luck

I was on depo for 6 months and have been
off of it for 8 months and my periods now
last for 12-20 days at a time... I talked
to my gyno and she told me because my
cycle was still around 28 days apart that
I was fine... I dont know whats going on
with my body but it really really sucks.
I am going to start yasmine tommarrow to
try to regulate my periods, which sucks
because we would like to ttc. I have a
feeling though that I need to get my body
in check before I would be able. If yall
hear anything different let me know
because I am sick of being on my period
non stop.

Hi! Sorry for not coming back here for my
report sooner.
I actually talked to a doctor after the
last post, and she prescribed me birth
control pills for two months to regulate
my hormone.
I need to take the pill for 3 weeks then
skip the 4th week dummies, then start next
cycle for 6 weeks straight.
It's kinda weird that I am on two
different birth control methods now.
What I forgot to mention in my last post
is that I had moved to new state and
didn't make an appointment for the last
depo shot sooner. So my depo was about a
month delayed. So the doc thought this
maybe the reason my hormone was messed up.
I've been taking the pill for two weks so
far and bleeding finally stopped a few
days ago.

Question Posted: 09-02-05 16:36pm
I was given the shot in the er because I
had started hemeraging two weeks befor my
period was due. I was a horrible mess.
They didnt know what it was so they gave
me the shot to "shock my system" I didnt
bleed for 3 months but I gained weight and
felt horrible so last month when I was due
to get it agian I didnt. I have been
bleeding for almost two weeks now and
cramping, feeling faint, tired, you name
it.My husband is getting really worried
and wants me to see the doctor.I guess
what I wanted to know is... Is whats
happening to me normal or should I be
worried? Oh and I have in the past been
told I have poly cistic overian disease
and endometriosis is it possible that has
something to do with it?If anyone could
give me advice or info I would really
appreciate it. Thanks

I totally hated depo. Sex was bad, I
couldn't loose weight and I just didn't
feel "womanly". I got off and was on
yasmin for 4 months and now my hubby and I
are ttc. I bled for 3 months off and on
with the first shot. Then with the
second it all stopped but the day I got
the shot I was freakin' out, the hormones
were reacting badly. I would suggest
charting if at all possible.

Depo was horrible for me too. I bled
constantly, but it was the perfect birth
control because my hubby wouldn't have sex
with me because I was bleeding. I was on
it for close to a year and then got on the
patch and loved it ever since. I quit
taking it last month because we are trying
to get pregnant. But it was a very good
birth control.

I really suggest going off the shot, it's
not exactly good for your body. The
woman's body was created/has evolved to
bleed monthly and have fluctuating
hormones.

Anti Depo Shot Posted: 10-15-05 08:50am
My experience with depo shot was
terrible!!!! I got severe anxiety and
depression. I didnt figure out it was
the depo for a year. My doc gave me
zoloft for the depression but never told
me that the depression could be a side
effect of the depo. Plus the zoloft
didnt really make me feel much better. I
just felt sort of numb and apathetic.
And tired and couldnt hardly have orgasms.
What a pain in the butt.(no pun
intended)

Depo Posted: 10-31-05 12:09pm
Please do not take depo if you can help
it. It was originaly intended for people
with learning disabilities who could not
protect themselves adequetly from
pregnancy. It is by no means appropriate
for long term use. It is so unnatural for
the female body. I took it after a
miscarriage last year and the effects on
me were devastating. I did not stop
bleeding for 6 months after. I got loads
of side effects, severe depression (not
what you need after having a miscarriage),
heavy bleeding, constant pain, pins and
needles. As soon as it wore off after
three months all of these symptoms
disapeared, however my period has not been
the same since and the bleeding is still
very irregular. I would not recommend
this injection to anyone, especially as
once you have had it - that is it!! You
cannot turn back the effect of this
powerful and dangerous drug. If it is
your only option, be aware that these side
effects do happen to some people. I was
not warned and wish I could have been
spared those three months of pain and
emotional sadness.
