Think This Is Depression? (very Long) Posted: 07-22-05 00:11am
Where do I start well ive been having some
attacks for about 2 years now I get
clammy, chest pains/heaviness, hard to
breath, upset stomach, dizziness,
dishoriented, pain down my arm (different
arm each time), and for some reason these
attacks come only at night about 4 hours
before bed. I went to the doctor when it
first started and was given an ekg because
on a chest x-ray they found a enlarged
valve in my heart but it turned out to be
okay. At that doctor visit two years ago
(last time I had been to the doctor) they
found I had mono and a virus that was
causing these attacks. Since that visit
they had stoped for about a year but in
the last year I have been getting them
about once a month but in the last two
weeks I have been getting them about every
night. Tuesday night I was driving to my
grandmas and I was having one badly so
when I got there my grandma took my blood
pressure and it was fine so we took my
blood sugar and it was 38...I drank a soda
and 30 mins later was fine and I didnt
have chest pains/pressure that night.
Last night I was suffering from upset
stomach and chest pressure, hard to breath
really badly and my blood sugar/pressure
was fine so I just went to sleep and this
mornign I had it a little bit. Some ideas
I have is stress/depression/anxiety
because other things I have going on is im
always tired im afraid of life and getting
a job (im 19) im very lazy and always
exhausted and I cry alot without reason
and I just dont wana leave the house I get
angry very easy and I want to be alone
alot of the times but I rarely am..Another
thing I was thinking is its in my head for
the last 5-6 years I have been deathly
afraid of having a heart attack so I might
be having the symptoms? Well thanks for
reading and any help would be great I have
no inssurance so I cant really go see a
doc at the moment..Oh and one thing can
anyone tell me if when your having a heart
attack does your blood preassure change at
all? Thanks for your help

By the sounds of it you do have depression
and also maybe anxiety.
Do you sleep well through the night?
Talking to someone you trust can help,
maybe even start a journal on the feelings
that you've had during the day and pin
point what caused them to make you feel
the way you were. Maybe see a
coucilour?
While being depressed does tend to make
you just want to sleep and laze around and
cut contact from social life.
I know it feels so damn hard while your
going through depressions because it's
always feels like its there to stay, it
will never go away.
I don't know what I can advise you because
we heal ourselves in different ways.
I myself was on both anitdrepressants and
am seeing a physcorist at the moment and
working my way to dealing with my
emotions. And also keep a journal.
I have also let my friends know and by
them knowing they understand when I tell
them I won't be hanging out.
Things do eventually look brighter, time
being one of the biggest factor.
Hope this gives some insight.
Good luck.

The reason why you feel tired during the
day is due to over sleeping.
Do you feel like your thoughts are so
muddled up right now is way you feel as
though your not sure what is causing your
depression?
I use to drive myself insane with just
thinking and thinking and thinking and
would wonder what the hell is it that is
making me sad?!
It will come out eventually - whatever it
is that is causing you to be sad. Plus do
you have any family members that are or
have been depressed? It can also be
genetic.
it does sound like you have anxiety. Me
too. Over the past couple years, i've
developed chronic tendenitis in both my
wrists, chronic back pain, and an ulcer.
I try to think of my mind and body as one
-- my body is like the test paper for how
my mind is working, and I can read it like
a map. What helps me: exercise.
Walking in a tree-lined area, doing yoga
or pilates, deep breathing exercises,
riding my bicycle in a fairly secluded
place. When I freak out, I do exactly
the opposite of what I should be doing --
I overeat and curl up on (or under) my bed
and the thoughts don't stop racing. What
helps to stave off another attack, and
what helps to alter the pattern of the way
I react to things, is to talk to my body
and see what it needs -- when i'm feeling
good.
I'd say, when you feel really anxious,
take your fingertips and massage right at
the base of your skull, or your temples,
or the soles of your feet. Breath
deeply, close your eyes. It probably
won't help the first time, but it may
start to help -- put your ear to the
ground and listen.

Sounds Like Pure Anxiety With Depression As a Follow-up Posted: 08-01-05 08:54am
I fought that battle for years. Went
through every type of test imaginable.
Even allergy test. Finally saw an er
doctor that listened to me when I told him
that I could tell when this was going to
happen to me ahead of time. I could even
make is happen at times, or so it seems.
Anything could set me off from my daily
routine being out of place by one event to
my husband and I having an argument. I
would throw up until there was nothing
else. I dehydrated so many times and
went to the er that they would just take
me on back and hook as iv us and give
phenergan. I lost weight, I withdrew
from my family, work and life in general.
I finally had had enough when this er
doctor sent me to a pshychiatrist the next
morning on an emergency visit. He said
he could tell what was wrong from the
moment I walked in. It took me 2 weeks
on ativan to feel some better, but I had
let it run for almost 6 years with no help
and once they got some of the anxiety
under control, the symptoms of depression
were there. I went inhouse for 5 days
and came out feeling better. But I had
very little suport from my husband and
mother so I had to deal with all the
stresses that caused my anxiety alone.
It was a tough road but I made it. I had
to realize that I had to take care of me
first and them later. I am now almost
off of any meds for anxiety. I may take
5 mg of xanax a year now and this is only
when my husband gets in one of "his moods"
and decided to be a butt. Marital stress
is the worse for anxiety. Hang in there.
With a attitude adjustment on your part
and the right combination of meds, you
will be 100% soon, I promise. Been to
hell and back and lived to tell about
it.

Hi im not to sure on this but the symptoms
you are describing sound like a heart
problem I have I have sinus tachyacardia
and you might have it too, its almost an
unknown heart problem and I suffer from
them on numberous occassions and
depression causes it to get worst trust me
I know, I dont want to scare you or
anything having stc isnt a serious thing
and usually with time it goes away, and it
is becoming common in young women.
