Necessary Tests Taken While Pregnant? Need Advice A/s/a/p! Posted: 07-22-05 07:29am
Hey i'm 3 months (12 weeks) pregnant and
I was just wondering if any of you girls
had to get blood work for stuff like :
quad screening test
also was wondering if you have to get it
done or if you have a choice to. And wha
texactly do they do? I have a book about
pregnancy in my room and it says in the
back what it is but it doesn't explain
what it does. Like do the ytake blood
work from me or my baby?
Please let me know either way! This is my
1st pregnancy...I'll be 21 in 1 weeks.
Thanks

Some states/providences/etc ive *heard*
they are mandatory, but I dont know which
tests.
Quad screening takes place at about 16
wks.
Im not sure how they do it though, sorry.

Yeah that's when I gotta get it done b/c
i'm 12 weeks pg and my next appt.'s in 4
weeks = 16 weeks pg for when I gotta get
it done...Then my next ultrasound is when
i'm 18 weeks pg to find out what i'm
having...If my baby's positioned right.
Thanks for replying...Appreciate it! :)

Im 23...Im 37 weeks pregnant...I only had
two blood work done. The first was to
see if you have hiv, or any other diseases
and to see if theres anything wrong with
you. They take 7 tubes of blood from you
and you get your results on your next
doctors visit...Or they will inform you
immediately if you have a positive result
in a test. The second test, is glucose
test...To see if you have diabetes...Or
check your sugar level.
I read somewhere that it is important to
get these test done, but you can refuse to
do them. But like I said..It is highly
recommended to do it.
Hope this reply helps you.
Soon to be mommy of 1

The quad screen test also known as triple
blood screen did you get a negative when
you got blood work for it?
I just turned 21....And dont know to get
it or not, supposed to next Dr. Appt.

thanks to all of you girls for all the
replies...I really do appreciate it! I
got that blood work done my first or
second Dr.'s appt. (where they took like
7 things of blood)....But everything was
fine because they never brought anything
up.....I'm just concerned about the quad
screen test, and rather or not to get it
done because I can refuse it if I choose
to do so. I just hate getting blood work
done and heard about a couple girls who
got a positve which it turned out to be a
false positve and their baby was
fine...Their older then me so maybe that's
why...My Dr./nurse says things should be
fine b/c i'm only 21 and stuff but it
still concerns me a good bit....B/c if you
get a positve for anything they have to
take a needle and poke in the sac which
the babys in which ain't the best thing
for a pregnant person and their baby.
Please be positve when replying to me
about this b/c i'm really like stressing
out and I know it's not good but I have
anxiety really bad and worry about every
little thing...Before it was tests
required to pass to graduate (which I
ended up passing), taking maneveribility
to get my license when I was 18...Which I
passed) so it's like when stuff comes
around I get stressed and really anxious
about it and then everything turns out to
be fine.

I think you are talking about triple
screening test...Not quad screening
test.
H
ttp://kidshealth.Org/parent/system/medical
/triple_screen.Html
check this site out. Dont stress
out...Everything you feel, the baby
feels... I wouldnt take the test if you
are havng no problems with your pregnancy
so far. You and your doctor knows your
body the best.
If you are the age over 35...Then you
should be worry or be concerned. Theres
a higher % of women having high risk
pregnancy than women under 30.
Around your 20th week...Um, when I was 4
or 5months pregnant...I got a ultra sound
done to see if my baby has down symdrome.
So I dont know about the triple screen
test. Hope you are okay...Just relax and
go with the flow...You be okay.

These tests are to see your risks of
having a down syndrome baby...You always
have the choice to decline on religous
grounds if you don't want to do these
tests and know the results...Personally I
recommend to do them so that you can make
informed choices..Best of luck with your
pregnancy
