I never really knew what anxiety was until
I met my boyfriend, he has anxiety attacks
and is on zoloft and trys to explain to me
the best he can what it feels like. Well
i've always did this but didn't really
notice it until today. I had to go to
court against an ex b/f and as soon as I
sat down I was very very nervous, I felt
like I had a lump in my throat, I was
sweating, and was figity (couldn't sit
still), kept putting my hair behind my
ears, crossing and uncrossing legs, etc..
And it felt like my heart was going to
jump out of my body. And these are all
things my b/f says happens to him. So
now that I think back... I get like this
everytime im nervous, but I think its
beyond nervousness.. Could this be an
anxiety attack and if it is is what should
I do.. Its an awful feeling

Usually full blown anxiety attacks spiral
out of control and you think something is
wrong to the point that you are afraid
that you are dying or losing control.
Certainly what you describe is anxiety
related and may indeed be apnic but hard
top tell from just what you said in your
note. If it is panic disorder the good
news is that it can be cured in a
relatively short period of time in
cognitive behavioral therapy (cbt) without
meds. I had panic attacks for years and
was on meds before being alerted to cbt.
Take care and I hope this is helpful.

Stress about some things (like court) is
normal but if you &/or your b/f are
having these sorts of feelings alot you
might try eating foods high in tryptophan
(eg turkey, most nuts, ricotta cheese,
yoghurt, bananas etc etc go into a search
engine like google & look up natural
sources of tryptophan) also a gentle 30
minute walk between 6 & 7 am both of
these work on our brain chemicals to
reduce stress.
Another thing you could try is "stress
management" there's lots of stuff &
types of this. Like take a breath &
count to 10 & acknowledge that you can
only do one thing at a time, meditation.
Noting the situations that cause you
stress & limit them then start out by
taking "baby steps" by which I mean do
things that stress you a little until you
get used to that then move up to something
more stressful & so on.

It just sounds like nervousness to me.
Anxiety attacks usually make you feel like
you are going to have a heartattack, and
it is very hard to breathe. I think you
are fine. Everyone gets nervous and
figity.

I have met many people who suffer anxiety
attacks, including myself & while it
is true that in their severer forms the
description they gives sounds like a heart
attack, anxiety attacks are like most
everything else & range from mild to
severe. When younger I would throw up if
I had to leave the house to visit even a
friend & even now I have milder
attacks, but I can also be out in a
shopping centre & have to sit down
because I feel like i'm about to pass out
& I come over really hot &
sweating etc.
There's a difference between fidgety
&/or normal nervousness & even
mild anxiety attacks.

Yeah, there is a difference, but what she
described sounds like nervousness. I
agree with saturn. Yes, you can have
mild anxiety attacks also, but being
fidgity in court is most likely
nervousness. Unless it happens to her
on a regular basis and while doing every
day activities and ranges from mild to
severe, and happens in normal situations,
not just ones that would make the majority
of people nervous. Then, it is most
likely not anxiety.

"i get like this every time i'm nervous" -
so not just in court so it sounds to me
like something that she is only now
recognizing happens to her in situations
when she feels that it's not normal, i.E,
"beyond nervousness" - she's seeking help
to overcome a possible problem not just
platitudes that she's fine.

Are you a doctor? Then quit acting like
one. You gave her your opinion and I gave
her mine. She can take it all in and make
her own decision. Do you suffer from
anxiety? I have had anxiety attacks for
over 10 years and I think I would know
signs of an anxiety attack and signs of
plain nervousness. I did not say that she
definately does not have anxiety, I
answered the question that was asked,
"does this sound like anxiety?" don't try
to correct me and act like you are all
perfect because I have read your posts and
you give everyone the same answer for
everything. "take a walk between 6 &
7, blah, blah, blah" that may help stress,
but stress does not cause everything.
Anxiety can be worsened by stress, but it
is not the cause. Some people have it and
some people do not.
I am not trying to be rude to you, but you
give your opinion and I will give mine.
Do not ever try to correct me again.
And if she finds out that she does have
anxiety and needs help overcoming the
problem then I am more than willing to
help her. Right now, the question was
once again, "does this sound like
anxiety?" I answered with my experiences
as i, myself, not just people that I have
known, suffer from anxiety.

No & I never suggested that I was a
dr!
Yes, I have suffered from anxiety attacks,
stress, depression & nervousness for
between 15 & 40 years depending on
which condition you refer to as well as
seeing it in family members & friends
for over 40 years so I do know something
about these things.
If I feel that you are wrong then I have
the right to say so - don't you have
something called the 1st amendment over
there?? Or haven't you heard of that
either??
Never have or would I say I was perfect if
I was I wouldn't have all these problems
now would I !!!! No-one is perfect &
we are all different & have different
views & experiences & so we get on
better with some people than others,
that's what makes the world so interesting
& gives us so many different points of
view especially in these forums thus
enabling people to as you say make their
own choices.
If you had read all my posts you would
know that I do not give everyone the same
answer, but if I believe that something
may help someone (just as if you were to
think something may help someone) then I
shouldn't be on a forum like this if i'm
not prepared to give the advice I believe
might help them.
True (in part anyway) some people do have
and others don't have stress &/or
anxiety but what you fail to acknowledge
is that a person can also develop either
or both as a result of
circumstances/environment etc.
By all means give your opinion & i'll
give mine regardless of how rude you are
to me & without even trying to be.
As to your command "do not ever try to
correct me again." get over yourself I for
one live in a free country where we don't
need any amendments to give us the right
to free speech, which includes correcting
others if we feel it is appropriate or
warranted.
